maniSH!T is at it again re: Revis/Jets
Please keep in mind that they had no scheduled meeting and this story is pure conjecture.
NY Jets brass including owner Woody Johnson, snubs Darrelle Revis' agents at NFL scouting combine in major sign star CB may not return The brushoff, which new GM John Izdik and Rex Ryan were also involved in, comes one month after reports surfaced that Johnson wanted the Jets to explore all options involving Revis — who can become an unrestricted free agent after this season — including trading him. The Daily "News", Post and most of the media outlets in this area that cover sports are little more then gossip pages anyway. Substance? You are better off reading national publications like Pro Football Weekly.
What is an interesting story angle that will not get play from the media is the fact that you have one of the greatest players in the history of the sport in Tom Brady restructuring his contract to make it very cap friendly for his team so they can make the team better. And then contrast that with Darrell Revis who won't leave a nickle on the table. |

To be fair, he's gotta write SOMETHING. We know Girlish is a hack, but that's basically what his job is. To hell with facts and actual news.

Jeter's Yankees won 4 world series in his first 5 seasons and Jeter is the unquestioned leader of the team. Revis, to this point, has never been a "leader" and the Jets have won 4 playoff games in his first 5 seasons. The comparison makes little sense to me. |

The Jets used to tell Revis that he wanted him to be their version of Derek Jeter.
Jeter plays short stop. Revis doesn't play short stop. He plays right field. If you're going to play right field you need to hit home runs. Revis doesn't hit home runs. He also says we won't get proper compensation because he's injured, but on the other hand we should go a head and commit to a 6 year guaranteed deal even though he's injured. Manish is a joke. |

What does Mrs. Revis bring to the table? What Brady did will have absolutely no bearing on what Revis will do, and rightfully so. Totally different situations. |

[QUOTE=Batmans A Scientist;4820365]This makes no sense. If Revis wants $15M/ Year, then it has to show up in the cap somehow. A signifcant singing bonus simply means that instead of a large cap hit coming in 2013, it's spread out until 2018 (or it escalates if he is cut at some point)
1. The first part makes no sense either. If Revis reaches unrestricted Free Agency, how would he also incur a $9M cap charge. Maybe I don't understand the Revis contract, as I know the last 3 years are voided, but how would a Free Agent ever count against the cap Because Tanny in order to keep the cap number low added these voidable years to the end of the contract in order to spread out the SB amortization over more years so instead of taking a 6 mill SB proration every year by adding on the voidable years allowed it to drop the yearly allocation to 3mill. So there is 9 mill (3 years X 3 mill per) of amortization that comes due when the contract is voided I think the premise of the article is right, The OP questioned Manish take since it was not like either the jets or the agents didn't schedule a meeting not having one is not news. My take is that it is news, why didn't the meet? The guy is a FA at the end of the year and they are not meeting with his agents? That is out of the ordinary and Manish mentioned the other players (agents) in a similar situation had all met with the jets. What I don't like is that he did not call the agents to determine to see if they were the ones that did not want to meet. I know it sounds stupid for them not to but the loop should have been closed. It could have just been a scheduling conflict. Last edited by patman; 02-26-2013 at 08:27 AM. |

This is another of Tanny's somewhat short sighted deals. This band aid deal was structured to be re-worked this off season. But, because of the impending cap hit and the inability of the Jets to franchise Revis, it gives the Jets no leverage at all. Even with his injury - Revis can pretty much dictate the negotiations. He can demand $15m/yr from the Jets or have unfettered access to FA. That's a pretty good situation to be in, even after coming off an injury. |

They are different but that still doesn't mean Revis has to squeeze every last dime out of the Jets. The extra 2 or 3 million he could leave on table will make a big difference signing others. Its not like he is playing on a minumum contract as it is.

PFT is taking the Manish angle on this stating that the fact that there was no meeting means the Jets were working hard to "Avoid" Revis' agent! What BS!

It is INFURIATING to have media cover your favorite team who spin everything to cast them in the light as fools. When do the Jets step up and revoke little man-sh1t's access? |

The Revis and Brady contracts are important because you have one player who is willing to leave a few dollars on the table for the betterment of the team while the other won't leave a nickle on the table. |

These are the people that form the public perception of the team. He shouldn't be cut any slack when they repeatedly whore themselves to hurt the team, in this case our best player, for their own gain. It wouldn't be so bad if people understood this, but half our fan base and all the TV shows take this as real info when it's pure drivel and then call the Jets a laughing stock. They create the circus. I'm pretty sure most teams are below are win total in the last 4 years but you don't hear much about them.

But, Revis's track record thus far (and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt - I haven't seen him make any demands this time around....yet) is that he feels the need to be validated by making an historic contract. Being filthy rich isn't enough - if he doesn't get in the stratosphere of what other marquee players get, he thinks he's being snubbed. Brady, OTOH, doesn't need a contract to substantiate his worth. He wants another ring. |

The second i read the headline, i knew it was Mehta. He's the master at making a story out of nothing. I know this guy has to write about something but does he really think Jet fans are idiots?

No other pro team, perhaps in history, has to fight a battle agaonst its own media for FAIR coverage. I'm not asking for homerism. Just be objective. The Jets didn't wear fake mpustaches to AVOID revis' agents. They just didn't meet. So report: THEY DID NOT MEET. 50% of jets fans and 99% of NFL fans just go by the headlines, and they see "avoid" and it's another feather in their cap. Everywhere i go in this country, "oh you're a jets fan? They're a joke, I'm sorry for you". With four playoff wins the last four years. WE'RE the joke? It's because of the B.S. our own media creates. |
