Give up a #1 draft pick in 2013 with the possibility of Revis being a one-year rental? That will never happen.

A trade will not occur with Revis unless there is a long-term contract in place with the money Revis agrees to.
So like I said no trade.

Thats not true at all. A team can trade a second this year and have the conditional pick in 2014 based on an extension and playing time.

Here's hoping that GS3 under center, and Coples on the edge works out.

Yeah like the Keyshawn trade. I'm still steaming about that one.

I would have to study the teams, but I would make a guess as to which team had the greatest chance of having the worst record, and trade Revis for next years #1, and start hoping. These GMs never think they'll have the worst record so it should be possible at this point.

If they're willing to pay Revis 16mil a year then they'll be able to sign him long term. If not then they won't. There is nothing questionable about it.

No one is giving Revis that money.

He's in for a dose of the "real worldsies".

EDIT:

Two sources tell Yahoo Sports the 49ers are "poised to make a run" at Darrelle Revis after stockpiling 15 picks in the 2013 draft.
The Niners only have 12 picks right now, but will get three more via the compensatory process. Per Yahoo's Jason Cole, the 49ers have considered pursuing Revis and not extending his contract, forcing Revis to play out 2013 at $6 million via bonuses and salary. Cole suggests Atlanta could make a Revis run, as well. If San Francisco acquired Revis, it'd likely surrender one of its two top-34 picks, or perhaps even both. Jets GM John Idzik should be on the phone with 49ers GM Trent Baalke. Idzik needs roster-building pieces, and Baalke has them.

Again, would you give up a 2nd round draft pick that could possibly be a 1-year rental for Revis?

Not going to happen.

If both SF and Atlanta are serious about it, then the Jets would be in good shape compensation wise.

All you need is 2 teams and then the bidding gets competitive.

Do people realize that if Revis leaves in 2014 we get hit with a $9 million cap hit because of the voidable last 2 years on his contract?

As mentioned by John. I'm guessing Denver might also have an interest. Talk about a small window w/Peyton.

You mean a 31st and 34th pick.

Essentially two 2nd rounders.

If we trade him those cap hits accelerate as well.

It's hilarious that the team with the most stacked roster in the entire league can afford Revis but the Jets can't.

Someone sit me down and explain how we can't afford him when the Jets are committed to 2 contract beyond this current year. Please. I'm waiting.

Because they are stacked and came up just short of winning the SB so they can go for it. The Jets aren't stacked, need more players and aren't close to the SB for at least 2 yrs.

Add to that whatever you give Revis today his and his agents, as history has demonstrated, will be back in a yr or two wanting more. There is the chance that Woody is just sick of the constant whining from Revis about his contract and the constant yo-yo of wanting a new one every other season and tired of his agents.
