That's insanity, the franchise tag is about the same price as his contract averages per year.

It's hard to put oneself in the shoes of people who earn one million dollars plus a year. To me, Joe Flacco's deal puts too much pressure on the teams salary cap and so puts the likelyhood of a super bowl repeat further and further away. Thomas Brady was smart, he has mountain's of cash and wants some more glory as he heads toward the end of his career - so he gave a cap friendly deal that is high in guarantees. If Brady stays healthy, that extra cash saved by the patriots can be spent on a few key role players that can make the difference between wins and losses.

At some point someone is just going to have to say no to these players.

Actually a good move by the Ravens. Flacco is taking over for Ray Killer as the face fo the franchise the next 10 years and I'm sorry but he probably is a top 5 QB. Take a look:

1. Brady
2. Rodgers
3. Peyton
4. Eli
5. Flacco
6. Brees

Sorry guys, Brees is not as good outside of a dome check the stats.

Agreed ... somewhere in the next five to seven years I see the trend towards bigger contracts slowing down. Maybe our Woody J., is the forerunner of things to come !

That is the point. The tag pays one top market value for the position each year.....

Flacco is a young qb who carried his team on his back to a super bowl title. He deserves every penny. Great move by the ravens.

Why even mention Sanchez?

It's like saying "good for Adrian Peterson. He won the rushing title unlike Blair Thomas."

if stats is what you're using, you have to remove eli from the top 5

Kudos to Flacco who did win the big game......But i think your kidding yourself if you think he would have done it here.....

If Flacco played for the Jets i do not even know if would have made it to his 4th season......

His first 3 playoff seasons were horrific.....7 games played.....

98-184...1050 yards....150 YPG....5.06 YPA....4 TDS....7 INT...Qb Ratings of 10.0...18.2....59.1....61.1.....I am sure you and all Jet fans would have been very patient with those clutch playoff numbers and not clamoring for his replacement and of course Flacco would not feel any pressure from the NY media after those playoff performances....

But...but Sanchez is much better than Flacco, 1/2 of this forum told me so last year at this time.

Good for Flacco, he delivered a Super Bowl championship, and he deserves the money.

Not like a non-playmaking CB who thinks he deserves to be paid like a Super Bowl QB.

Are you sure?

In 2010 he was statistically better outdoors, in 2011 he averaged 369 yards/game outdoors and in 2012 he was actually better outdoors too.

2010
Situation G QBRat Comp Att Pct Yds Y/G Y/A TD Int
Outdoors 5 101.6 129 188 68.6 1350 270.0 7.2 12 4
Indoors 11 86.6 319 470 67.9 3270 297.3 7.0 21 18

2011
Situation G QBRat Comp Att Pct Yds Y/G Y/A TD Int
Outdoors 5 95.7 160 230 69.6 1849 369.8 8.0 9 6
Indoors 11 118.7 308 427 72.1 3627 329.7 8.5 37 8

2012
Situation G QBRat Comp Att Pct Yds Y/G Y/A TD Int
Outdoors 7 99.1 198 305 64.9 2380 340.0. 7.8 17 6
Indoors 9 94.1 224 365 61.4 2797 310.8 7.7 26 13

In 2008 and 2009 he was better indoors, but then in 2007 he was much better outdoors... Overall he's just a fantastic qb regardless of where he plays.
