"Catholic 7" to Keep Big East name

This actually makes me happy.

http://deadspin.com/5987813/the-big-...got-good-again

It's a shame the Big East waited this long to do it, and that Syracuse decided to go the football route, I still wouldn't be shocked if Boeheim retired at the end of the year

Apparently the new conference will be the Big East and will consist of

Georgetown,
Marquette,
Villanova,
DePaul,
Providence,
St. John's
Seton Hall,
Xavier,
Butler

Eventually Creighton, St. Louis, and Dayton will join too. Though, personally I think Creighton is too far away, and would have preferred George Wasington or VCU.

Either way, this is the way it should be, the "Leftover Big East" literally has just one original BE team, UConn, who will probably move away eventually.

I'm glad they did this too. The Big East has a lot of history and it would have been a shame to blow it all up.

I wonder if the reason they aren't in the league has to do with Villanova, I know there's a lot of bad blood within the Big 5.

I think you're right, Nova is the snob school of the Big 5, Rollie destroyed it in the 80's and they have tried to revive it. Jay is more concerned about how he looks.

I want UConn to join the Catholic 7 but I guess that won't happen. I really hope they make some kind of move and don't play in this **** conference leftover from the BE

UConn wants to do football also. There's no way the "New" Big East will go down that road again.

UConn will join the ACC as the 16th team. Good fit.
Northern Divison with BC, Pitt, Cuse, VA, VT, ND (they'll go football as well), Lou and one of the NC schools.

Blame the Administrators at Uconn. They believed they were better than the BE and, for some reason are under the impression that the school is an emerging football power (what a joke!). It is well known that Uconn was dancing to get out of the BE like some of the other football schools who left. Well that hasn't turned out so well. Uconn is now without a conference. The irony is the BE helped schools like Uconn become a national power in basketball.

In other words, dance with the one who brought you to the dance. The basketball-only schools are tired of being treated like a stepchild. Good for them.

As someone how was there from the beginning, I am happy that the Catholic schools are sticking together and making a go of a basketball centric conference. Really happy that they are keeping the name.

The way the Big East was meandering the last decade, it was time for Syracuse (and the like) to get out--really can't blame them and am looking forward to the ACC. UConn really was the only school to get hosed.

Btw, this was all Michael Vick's fault.

Why is UConn hosed? You don't think they'll be in the ACC within 2 years?
Nowhere else to go and an OK fit. FB and BB.

UConn is the same school who sued BC and VaTech for leaving the Big East.

And now, they are screwed without joinning them. They have nowhere to go. They going to play Lehigh? Can't get in that conference - too academic.
There's always Conference USA. A fine league.

They'll be happy to get soaked with the ACC entry fee.

A-10 is a dog. Where is the football schedule coming from. They have nobody to play without a conference. All D-1 teams are now affiliated.

I guess the could go to the MAC as well. Let's see, the ACC or the MAC.
