Josina Anderson: Jets expressing interest in Charles Woodson

Conor Orr ‏@ConorTOrr
Per @JosinaAnderson, the #Jets were one of the teams expressing interest in free agent corner/safety Charles Woodson.

Josina Anderson ‏@JosinaAnderson
NFL sources tell me that the Seahawks, the Dolphins, the Jets and the Giants are among teams that have called to discuss Charles Woodson.

Agent Carl Poston to me on Charles Woodson: "I talked to Charles Woodson yesterday and we're discussing possible upcoming visits. There are a number of teams that have expressed interest in him. He is still interested in playing for a contender."

So we'd have the real 2009 DPOY on the roster then.

Too soon?

He can play center field. Haven't had one of those since Rhodes had balls.

Cost too much

The Jets are rebuilding, when you do that you sign Vet min deals and inexpensive holdovers

Why? Aren't we supposed to be rebuilding with young talent?

If this is supposed to placate us after a Revis trade, it's not going to work.

36 year old safeties do not come to rebuilding teams, and rebuilding teams do not sign 36 year old safeties.

Woodson will be 37 during the season. How much could he possibly cost?

Not sure why the Jets would be looking at a 37 year old for this team, but a healthy Woodson does have ball skills sorely lacking on this team outside of Revis & Cro.

This would have been a nice signing back in 2010...when we were maybe a player or two away from the big game...

Now we just need to rebuild, and signing Woodson to anything other than a vet minimum (which he prob will not accept) would be foolish.

Contrary to some people on here I would like this move, not just for replacing Landry but for being a tutor to our young safeties, Josh Bush and Antonio Allen. He could also help Kyle Wilson a bit, I guess. They could learn a lot from a great veteran like Woodson.

That being said, I don't think it's going to happen.

Sad If he is interested in playing for a contender, he will not play for the Jets.

Seahawks would then be a logical choice. Of course this is a two way street, a contender would need to want him.

However, Ronnie Lott and Art Monk came here when the Jets were struggling, so who knows.

That's when the Jets had money to burn..

As for Woodson, I agree on the vet angle. Even rebuilding teams need some locker room leaders.

I wouldn't be against signing him to a one-year deal, but it doesn't seem like a logical fit for either side.

We are looking to get younger but that does not mean that we can't sign a couple of veterans for cheap 1 year deals as stop gaps.
