That would be sick, I already like the offseason moves but that would be tremendous. Maybe we could find a decent safety but still...

I don't really know anything about this guy, but here are the questions that I have:

1) Can he be an edge rusher?

2) Can he play Rex's hybrid style defense?

3) Can he contribute in a 4-3 formation?

4) Does he make our team better than we were, or is he simply a band aid for a year?

I would also hope this doesn't change Idzik's mindset one bit on the draft. I hope Idzik is a firm believer in taking the BAP at all times. So if there is a great pass rushing OLB to fall to us at #9, we would not back off from taking him. IMO, that's when GM's get themselves into trouble. They start drafting for NEED. The only way I would ever agree with drafting for need, is if said player also just happens to be the BAP.

Jets to sign Antwan Barnes?

Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Antwan Barnes announced on Twitter he had agreed to a contract with the rebuilding New York Jets, who continue to shop for bargain free agents.

He might have tweeted too soon, however, as he posted shortly afterward that he remains in talks with the team.

"Wait a minute...not official yet...in talks now," he wrote.

Barnes, who visited with the Jets last week, earlier made the announcement that he had agreed to a deal on his Twitter account, saying: "Green and White, it is." He thanked the team's brain trust, adding, "To the fans, I won't let you down."

He would become the second former Chargers player the Jets have added this offseason. Last week, the team signed defensive tackle Antonio Garay.

Barnes would be reunited with Rex Ryan, his defensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens in 2007 and 2008. Coordinator Dennis Thurman also is a former Ravens assistant who has worked with Barnes. The Jets have tried to sign him in the past.

Even though he has been a pass-rushing specialist his entire career, Barnes, 28, would have the opportunity to start with the Jets.

The roster is bereft of outside linebackers after the recent release of Calvin Pace, who started for five seasons. The other starter, free agent Bryan Thomas, won't be re-signed. Barnes' competition is Garrett McIntyre and Ricky Sapp.

The Jets would be Barnes' fourth team in seven years. He has 23.5 career sacks, including 11 in 2011 for the Chargers. Curiously, his production took a big dip last season, as he managed only three sacks in 11 games.

The Jets' sack production has declined in each of the four seasons under Ryan, and they need a pass-rushing presence on the edge.

Barnes once sacked Joe Flacco four times in a game. He also had a two-sack game against Tom Brady, which no doubt appealed to Ryan.

The Jets needed to do something to help their eighth-ranked defense, which lost three starters in free agency -- tackle Mike DeVito and safeties LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell.

Conversely, the Jets have signed two defensive free agents, Barnes and Garay. On offense, they added quarterback David Garrard, running back Mike Goodson and guard Willie Colon.

Haha, seriously?!

phewwwwww. Thank god, I don't have to worry about him anymore. Then again, all this does is mean someone else won't be slipping to the jets.

Barnes rushing from the edge on 3rd and long is already ten times better than watching CAlvin Pace spend 5 seconds "bear-hugging" opposing teams Right/Left Tackles while the QB has all day to make a play.

The New York Jets haven't done much in the free-agent pool this offseason, but now they are in bargain-hunting mode. Their latest potential purchase makes a lot of sense.

Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Antwan Barnes tweeted on Monday that he's joining the Jets. He then quickly followed up with a tweet that the deal isn't quite done yet.

Confusion aside, we expect this marriage to happen. Barnes is a pure 3-4 outside pass rusher who can play on passing downs. Barnes recorded 11 sacks in 2011 but only three sacks in an injury-plagued 2012 season that included five missed games.

The Jets would be buying low on Barnes. They need all the help they can get in the pass rush department, so he was worth a shot. Barnes would join defensive lineman Antonio Garay, running back Mike Goodson and former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive guard Willie Colon as low-cost Jets signings this offseason.

For years, the Jets seemed focused on making big splashes in the offseason. New general manager John Idzik is bringing a different approach out of necessity because of the salary cap.

That's not what that says at all.

All he wrote is that the Jets FA moves are born out of necessity

WTF??? The draft is starting to sound more and more like horsetrading. Where someone tries to misrepresent an 18 year old horse as an 11 yo. Believed to be? Maybe they should check his teeth.

Or would he be a designated pass rusher like a Bruce Irvin?
I'm no draft expert but on limited viewing he's incredibly fluid and runs easily both upfield and laterally.Pursues all over the field and drops into coverage really comfortably.Despite his size I think he'll be as good as or possibly better against the run than any OLB we've had since Abe as he gets to the ball carrier and both hits hard but wraps up.I think he could be a great tackler and I don't see him missing many tackles.

Some think he is inconsistent and disappeared in some games while beasting in others and his sack numbers don't jump out like Jones or Moore but if he's dropping into coverage 30 or 40% more of the time then those guys then he might actually be underrated as a pass rusher...I would love him at 9

He's from Ghana where there has always been a culture of inaccurate ages for various reasons, particularly with athletes...same in Nigeria
