Wink I WANT TO BELIEVE! Jets make "deal" with Rozelle in '69?

Supposedly this is how the story goes.....

The Jets fool the football world in '69 by going along with a deal with certain members of the Colts to throw the game to the Jets. This is why Jimmy Orr was seen waving his arms en route to the end zone without Earl Morrell finding him and why Bubba Smith was so easily blocked by Randy Rasmussen (who weighed 100 pounds less) and why Morrell threw 3 Int's in the SB and not 2 in any game the whole '68 season....etc. etc.

The Hunts of KC tell Pete Rozelle of this deal the Jets/Colts made with Vegas oddmakers (Jets were a huge 18 points underdogs set by Vegas) and lay down the law to the Jets in particular. Why the Jets and not the Colts? Because Namath was the catalyst. The only Colt paying a price was Don Shula who was forced to go to the "inferior league" to coach the last place Fish. Anyway.....here was supposedly the punishment:

***The Jets will not win another SB by any means necessary until at least the year 2019 (50 years) Thus....

But, they have to make it look good for the NFL to believe. So, every 7 or so years the QB is lost at the start of a season for example. The playoffs are made only when the HC seems to be conpetant to the rest of the league - thus - Kotite get 4 wins in 2 years and Tuna gets 9 wins in his first season (with the same team) but has Leon Johnson throwing passes with the season on the line

QB "injuries" that cost the Jets a season(s): 11 seasons in last 36

Namath 1970, 1972 (preseasons)
Todd 1978, 1983 (preseasons)
O'Brien 1986, 1992 (10-1 start/preseason)
Ryan 1984 (6-2 start with Ryan/Jets finish 7-9 with O'Brien)
Easiason 1995 (1-1 start)
O'Donnell 1996 (1st game)
Testaverde 1999 (1st game)
Pennington 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007? (preseason/1-1 start)

There's more to the story if you want me to elaborate further. The story itself comes from Jimmy "The Greek" (famous Vegas "insider") back in 1983 after the Jets "mudbowl' defeat where an average Fish LB (AJ Duhe) returns TWO interceptions for TD's - something that hasnt happened since in the NFL.

how and when was O'Brien injured in 1992??

Also- Todd was replaced by Matt Robinson in '78 who many thought was a better quarterback than King Richard....

.

and how did O'Brien's one game injury hurt the team in '86???

.

Thats friggin deep dude. I though it was cause Joe Willie sold his soul to the devil. Thats what the devil said in the movie "Little Nicky". Thats a bit more believable I think.

By the time Matt was brought in the season was gone. Matt played very well and should have been the starter in '79 if not for Michaels punishing him for a freak injury he didnt report to the HC. O'brien if you recall was supposed to be the starter but Nagel was put in after ("bad ankel") O'brien won 4 of the 5 preseason games that year.

First of all you are way off base on the '92 pre-season....the Jets purposely did not negoitiate with O'Brien who was not under contract until the pre-season was well under way in order to give Nagel playing time...It was Nagel who won 5 pre-season games and had everyone refering to him as "Broadway Browning"...then the regular season started.....O'Brien was foolishly never in the game plan that year.

Second- by your own admission the '78 season was gone so Todd's injury had no bearing..

Finally- in '96 O'Donnell's injury was late in the year, not in the first game...

The O'Donnell injury was in the first game - but anyway - you are nitpicking and getting away from the post. The post is not about that stats i give but a interesting story coming from 22 years ago from a guy who knew Vegas like the back of his hand.
