With 14.5 games in 1st place we can afford the luxury of developing these pitchers. They'll be needed in the playoffs.

Added to the fact that during the recent streak, Chris Woodward, Chavez and Michael Tucker have been starters.....There was much talk about how the Yanks were so impressive because of so many injuries this year, but the Mets have been equally impressive.....

...and we just swept the second best team in the NL.

Sometimes a team just clicks. Dave Williams sucked for the Reds....but put him in a Mets uni, and the guy pitches like Tom Glavine. Ditto for Guillermo Mota. Its much easier to pitch when you know your team is going to score you some runs.

I always thought that way about the Eagles. Put a dude in an Eagles jersey and he becomes a mean, tough SOB. Put him in a different jersey and he's average and injury prone (Jeremiah Trotter is the perfect example of that).

I like that we're getting the chance to do this, we have a couple of young guys out there, and if they get enough experience, they might give the mets a very strong rotation in the near future.

It really might be a blessing in disguise. You already know what you've got in Pedro and Glavine, and even Trax and El Duque to a lesser extent. This is a great audition for this year and next for the rest of these guys, with a nice buffer of this lead.

Based on potential I think we could very well have Perez as our third starter and Bannister and Maine as our fourth and fifth.

let the young pitcher develop while we have this huge lead. they are pitching well, maybe not well enough for playoffs, but it is a glimpse of things to come.
