Manchester United made their best ever start to the Premiership season after clinching a one nil victory against a Spurs side who frequently threatened at Old Trafford. The win was United's fourth in four games but was not without anxious moments for the home side. Ryan Giggs scored the decisive goal but poor finishing from both Mido and Defoe denied Tottenham a share of the points.

Everton humiliated Merseyside rivals Liverpool with a resounding three nil victory at Goodison Park to briefly put David Moyes' side top of the table. Andrew Johnson bagged a brace to add to Tim Cahill's opener, a result which will do nothing to inspire confidence in a Liverpool side whose Champions League campaign kicks off at PSV Eindhoven this week.

Portsmouth and Wigan played out a dull game at Fratton Park with the home side taking the three points to continue their fine start to the season and replace Everton at the top of the table, albeit for a couple of hours. Benjani Mwaruwari scored the decisive goal in the forty ninth minute but Lua Lua should have doubled the lead instead of hitting the post.

James Morrison's second Premiership goal gave Boro a shock lead at Arsenal who once again failed to convince at their new stadium. George Boateng was sent off for a clumsy challenge and Thierry Henry then dispatched a penalty to score his first of the season and give Arsenal a point. The Gunners will be eyeing their forthcoming Champions League fixture in Hamburg with trepidation following this performance.

Didier Drogba got an early opener against Charlton at Stamford Bridge to notch up his third goal of the new season. Charlton lost Andy Reid to injury but ex-Chelsea man Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink bagged his 128th Premiership goal to equalise for the visitors early in the second half. Ashley Cole came on as a second half substitute before Ricardo Carvalho netted the winner for the Blues whilst Charlton had a goal chalked off for hand ball. Frank Lampard missed a late penalty.

Fulham took all three points at St. James's Park despite having Jimmy Bullard stretchered off in the first half with a serious leg injury. Newcastle, with striker Obffemi Martins included, pressed Chris Coleman's side but it was midfielder Scott Parker who gave the Magpies the lead. Fulham's first shot in the second half from Brian McBride brought the visitors the equaliser and soon after Carlos Bocanegra struck to seal the victory.

Bolton left it late to land the points against Watford in a game which saw Nicholas Anelka make his debut for Bolton at the Reebok Stadium. Sam Allardyce was forced to introduce Ricardo Vaz Te from the bench in the 35th minute to add some spark to Bolton's play and the striker came close to opening the scoring several times. Anelka was subsituted in the second half but Gary Speed scored an injury time penalty to win the game for Bolton.

Sheffield United's lack of goalscoring touch was evident once more as they took on bottom of the table Blackburn at Bramall Lane. Paddy Kenny saved a second half Lucas Neill penalty to keep the game level whilst at the other end Brad Friedel repeated the trick to save a David Unsworth penalty after Kishishev had fouled Rob Hulse. The same player then had another penalty saved by Friedel as both sides rued their inability to find the back of the net in the goal-less draw.

only really saw the arsenal game (10AM sessions at the pub are a killer after a hard nights drinking), so i'm not in much position to comment about the other action...that beign said, i cant believe that this article doesnt mention Boro's keeper, who was downright fantastic...

I watched the Man Utd - Tottenham match, and then Serie A on Gol TV. I thought it was interesting that the Tottenham keeper was wearing a baseball cap, I guess to keep the sun out of his eyes. I never saw a soccer player where a hat.
