Young Pitching in the Majors

I'm only 28, but I never remember seeing as many young, talented starting pitchers as I have this year. Liriano, Verlander, Weaver, Kazmir, even Hernandez, who has not put it all together but who may have the best stuff of all.

Too bad Papelbon, Liriano and Kazmir are out for the season with injuries.

Are these HS and college coaches burning arms out, or are kids throwing sliders and curves too early?

Ikey... I think you got it right about throwing sliders and curves too early. For years, all the college pitchers were just trying to blow people by with their fast balls.

Now, they've learned that your more marketable if you have other pitches. They try learning curves and sliders and I think that's what takes the toll on their arms, especially the slider.

Not to mention Duke, Snell, Maholm, and Gorzelanny.
