Iraq: what a mess

just wanted to remind everyone that Iraq is a total s--tshow and George Bush is going to go down in history as one of the most radical and worst Presidents in the history of the union. 150 people kidnapped at once by people in Iraqi Police uniforms.

America can't abide losers, this "war" has exposed us as losers to the rest of the world. Thanks dubya and rummy ya bastids.

Iraq begins inquiry and arrests policemen over mass kidnapping

Iraq´s government says it has begun an inquiry into the kidnapping of dozens of people from an Higher Education Ministry building in Baghdad. Some witnesses claimed gunmen in police uniforms stormed the building and rounded up Sunni employees, guards and visitors, as police patrols looked on. It is claimed the gunmen said they were from the Interior Ministry.

There are reports five senior police officers have been arrested. A spokesman said officials are questioning other police in the district. He said a number of hostages have already been released, claiming they had been taken to a Shi'ite militia stronghold in the capital.

The kidnapping came in a day of violence around the country. In Mosul, eleven civilians were shot dead in a series of attacks by armed gunmen. In the Al-Dubat district of Ramadi, a Sunni stronghold, at least 30 people were killed in an unconfirmed US raid.

An anonymous police source said an operation involving tanks left dead civilians lying in the street and several houses destroyed. Iraqi officials said another US raid took place overnight in Shula, a Shi'ite enclave in the capital. They said six people died and 13 others were wounded in an air strike following clashes between soldiers and supporters of a Shi'ite cleric.

In the past months, US soldiers have carried out a number of raids, searching for militants suspected of carrying out sectarian attacks. The Shi'ite Iraqi Prime Minister is under pressure to stop the violence. But he says he needs time to build consensus between opposing forces in his coalition.

So the Dems will end the War the day they take office, right? Or at least try to, right?

The war will not end day one. It won't end for a while. The focus will shift. Troops will be withdrawn and stability talks or something of that ilk will take place between several countries.

I hope to see progress (troop withdrawal) by the end of the coming summer. If it takes longer than that we will be in a whole lot more trouble. The war could get worse than it is now.

How can the Dems, who campiagned on "Bush and the War are Wrong", turn around and NOT try to end a War they've absolutuly blasted over and over for years now as immoral, wrong, and evil??

If they do not propose legislation to end the War on Day 1, they have lied to America, pure and simple.

They will propose legislation. That is different than "ending the war" imo

If they do everything within their power, starting on day 1, then they were honest.

If not, they are liars.

I am not endeared to dems. I am an independent. If they (dems) don't do the job, then out they go also. We want effective management of government.

They need to show the people who overwhelmingly supported them that they will do something to end this war. Something practical that will work.

Starting day one. I think that Murtha (Ex-Marine {unabashed plug}) should lead the charge. he has military experience something that was clearly "locked out" of this administration.

America will look so much stronger once democrats pull out the troops. The respect from the un, iran, syria, north korean, russia, china and france will just be overflowing. Can hardly wait.

The same people just voted into power are also 1/2 responsible for sending us there in the first place. Their responsible for telegraphing to our enemies that America is divided and weak -- just like osama bin laden predicted. And they've convinced enough people that it's all one guy's fault.

But, THERE'S NO NEED TO FEAR, DEMOCRATS ARE HERE!

So, did Bush & Rumsfeld kidnap those people?
Our US soldiers?
What about the people doing the kidnapping?
Heroes?

What does the rest of the world have to do with
anything in Iraq, and why should we care what
the world thinks, again?

Maybe you're right for once.
Maybe many in Iraq are sociopathic losers that cant live
in peace.
What about all the people in our own inner cities that
act likewise?
Doesnt everyone deserve a shot to live under the rule
of law, or is it too good for the ME

Tis true....I can't abide insipid defeat-o-crat losers

Concentrate on raising the minimum wage, that'll
fix everything

Surrre you're "independent"

And definitely not smart if you think Cheney and Rumsfeld, who
both already held the job of Secretary of Defense have no
military experience.
You musta confused them with Bubba.

Murtha is the last guy anyone would nominate to sort anything out
in a "practical" sense. His best work is taking bribes as
an unindicted co-conspirator in Abscam, and
accusing soldiers of war crimes before they even stood trial.
Marines have been accused before, and wrongly.

The only Marines who care about him are the fringe cut n runners-most
would hang em from the rafters if left alone in a room with him

Here's the problem..NONE of this ****e happened under Saddam..
AND Saddam was NOT a threat to the US...His main enemy was Iran..
The US bungled so bad by listening to Rummy and Cheney on the number of troops needed..
We let that country get destroyed..
Well done W

Nope, last Tuesday's election "exposed us as losers to the rest of the world."

Now with our troops demoralized, we probably will lose the war.

BTW, bit, why do you think the insurgency happened? Why do they kill fellow muslims, fellow Iraqis?

The troops don't give a sh*t who is in power. Yes, I read your thread with the soldier's letter. If a soldier is in a war they want to do their JOB and fight. The war has been a terrible failure and things must change.

What changes would you make (beside impeaching Bush)?

I'll ask you this question too...

Yes we have casualties, and I grieve for those who lose a loved one over there, but are their deaths more tragic than the 1700 alcohol related deaths on college campuses per year? What did those kids die for? Or are their deaths more tolerable b/c they were having a good time when they died?

Never mentioned impeaching anyone.
Sorry I can't help you feel better about the Right.

Do you honestly beleive that the Insurgents give a f#ck about who is serving in Congress and the Senate? You think this only happend because the Democrats won back both houses? Is it really that simple? If the Republicans remained in power they would of cancelled this operation? Hold on Santorum is still there, we can stand down now.

They are killing anyone who the Muslims believe are not on their side. I think it is ridiculous that the Republicans are planning to cut Veterans benefits and you think the troops are upset now while they are over there? Wait until they get back and truly feel abandoned. Thanks for your service, but don't rely on the government to help you now, you are no longer of use to the U.S.

Bottom line is that dems are in control of the purse strings. You can't fight a war if it's not funded.

They can't pull or even curtail the funding because they made such a stink about not enough troops and body armor in the first place. Can you imagine the political ads in '08 if they cut funding and put the troops more at risk?

If they don't cut funding, then their base (moveon.org) has a hissy. They would be reneging on their promise to "Stop Bush".

If they "Stop Bush", it means ending the programs that have kept terrorists from launching attacks in the US. Imagine if they successfully "Stop Bush" and terrorists succeed in launching another attack while they share power? Or if they "Stop Bush" and the economy tanks on their watch?

The more I think about the elections, the more psyched I get. This election enema'ed many of the RHINOs right out of the GOP and they will think twice about supporting the likes of lincoln chaffee again. The dems are screwed whichever way they go and their thirst for power will ultimately be their undoing -- again.
