I know this is Hockey News but:

He failed a recent medical test.

Thank god he has a 15 year deal.

Concussions can cut a career short. Thats a shame, he is talented young goalie.

So in summary.

No playoffs.

Snow traded the future for Smyth who will probably not be on the team next year.

They got nothing for Blake who probably won't be on the team next year.

Wow. Some moderator has a quick finger.

This is breaking news. You could have left it on the front page for more than 2 minutes.

But I know, you need the room for all those relevant threads.

He got a second concussion when Avery "unintentionally" fell on his head

Damn....tonight's game might get really ugly without Ricky bailing us out. WE don't do very well vs. Marty.

He also took a shot from Jagr on the mask in the same game, another possible source of his "2nd concussion," similar to what happened to Mike Richter in 2002. DiPietro also had a concussion in 2005. Bottom line is, Nolan and Snow rushed him back to action prematurely. I can understand that from a team standpoint in that he is vital to the Islanders making the playoffs. However, it was risky and probably not prudent and not in DiPietro's best interest. I know it's vogue for Islander fans to hate on Avery. Don't blame Avery. He may not have been the cause. DiPietro should not have been playing. Blame Snow and Nolan. Blame Snow for signing his college buddy Mike Dunham as the backup. If the Islanders had a solid backup goalie, DiPietro could have rested longer. The Rangers are in the same boat with Lundqvist. If he goes down, they're screwed, unless Sather has the gonads to bring up Montoya as the backup. With Weekes or Valiquette as the backup, the Rangers are weak in that area as well.
