Dude not so much the expectation, it is the retaliation or lack of. Marines (5 were from my old unit) got killed and we just basically let it pass by.

We did retaliate..the USS New Jersey bombarded Lebanon with it's huge 16 inch guns,and we had the Navy bomb stuff too..don't you remember your hero Jesse Jackson negotiating with the terrorists to release an African American Naval Officer who was captured?

I don't find that funny. Marines were killed. Jesse went to Syria for that release upstaging Reagan at the time.

We (Marines) want(ed) blood.
