Wow, what is going on with all these draft picks getting cut ?
You think a 4th rounder is going to unseat Deuce McAllister or Reggie Bush? Sometimes cuts happen not because the guy sucks but because the team already has so much talent at that position.

The Bengals released Doug Johnson (QB) and traded a conditional pick to the Rams for Ryan Fitzpatrick. If Palmer goes down they're in so much trouble.
McBean was a UT/3-4DE prospect.
I hope we take a long look at McBean. He was a middle ranked DT in the draft. He's got the size (6-5, 285) that's good for a 3-4 DE. We could use some youth on our DL.

DT /DE Joe Cohen too.

Right, but that doesn't mean Pittman can't be the #3 RB.

Fact is an undrafted free agent beat him out.

If you don't anticipate the guy playing, it's better to pay the minimum for an UDFA than a 4th round salary.

I think the cut says more about the Saints draft choice than it does about Pittman (who was a very good back at Ohio State). Why did New Orleans use a pick in the 4th for a RB?

If another team picks Pittman up I guess we'll see if he does, in fact, have some talent.

But they had McAllister and Bush when they drafted Pittman ! They knew they were strong at RB going into the 2007 draft.
So if a DB is cut by, lets say the Bills, and the Colts were really interested in the guy, all other 31 teams would have to pass on him for the Colts to sign him?
it goes line this....that team has to wait 24hrs after the cut/waiver then they can sign him

It's always good to have depth, and they felt Pittman was good value at that spot and could provide quality depth.

Lions cut veteran G Bary Stokes. He's 33, 6'4" 310 lbs, and has 83 NFL game starts in his career.

Assets Good size and experience. Knows the game. Has played tackle. Can block on the move and is adequate in pass protection. A lunch pail type.

Flaws Won't get a lot of push. Not a top athlete.

Career potential Adequate starter.

RBs Released (that I am aware of):
Artose Pinner
Ciatrick Fason
Wali Lundy
Antonio Pittman
Kenneth Darby
Verron Haynes
Eric Shelton
Dede Dorsey
Shaud Williams
Aevion Cason
Danny Ware
Alvin Banks
DonTrelle Moore (come on, we all liked him as a UDFA!)

Teams in need of RB:
NY Jets (Need a #3 RB)
Indianapolis (No backups to Addai at all?)
I am sure there are more teams that will scour the wire...

Also...
Greg Eslinger (Wasn't he the 2nd best C in last year's draft? Can he play guard?)
Greg Eslinger (Wasn't he the 2nd best C in last year's draft? Can he play guard?)
Great eye - Eslinger was the 2nd rated Center last year. He couldn't hang on the Bronco's squad. But they have an awesome line so maybe he could work for us?

Greg Eslinger
Grade: 3.77
Position: C
Class: Sr
School: Minnesota
Conference: Big Ten
Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 292
40 Time: 5.21
Selected by: Denver Broncos
2006 draft, Round 6, pick 29 (198 overall)

BIO: Fifty-game starter who broke in with the first unit as a true freshman. Awarded varying degrees of All-American and All-Conference honors throughout his four years.

POSITIVES: Explosive lineman who stands out blocking in motion. Quick into blocks, fast to the second level and gets good fits on linebackers or devastates opponents in the secondary. Possesses outstanding vision, overall football wherewithal and intelligence. Nicely adjusts to defenders and seals opponents from the play. Patient, works well with teammates and has a nasty streak. Blocks with solid fundamentals.

NEGATIVES: Lacks size, strength and rarely opens up the middle of the field or finishes blocks.

ANALYSIS: A high-character prospect with great work ethic, Eslinger has a lot of skills which translate well to the next level. The ability to block on the move makes him a perfect fit in a system which employs a zone-blocking scheme or puts linemen in motion.

PROJECTION: Early Third Round

Man... just go to PFT and read through all of the cuts, there are SO MANY guys from round 3-7 of this years draft that are being cut... more than I can recall in most years. Gives perspective to how weak this draft class was...

Wali Lundy
If we're claiming a RB that's the kid who might be worth considering

He was very impressive in the preseason last year, so much so he became the starting RB for the Texans on opening day, but his production was disappointing behind a poor offensive line so eventually he was demoted to backup .. but the kid has some skills, enough to make himself a starter last year as a rookie {small school} day two pick, so he might be worth a look behind a better offensive line .. and yes, you can complain about our O-line all you want, but it's light years better than what the Texans fielded last year

My guess is that the Colts grab Lundy, they are more familiar with him... the AFCE isn't the only division where players cross between rivals with regularity... I hope we get Pinner, the guy hasn't had many chances to step in and start, always backing up the "sexy" RB, but he can carry the load if needed. Thomas Jones, Pinner and Leon would give us a dominant trio of guys, rather than the combo of TJ and Leon plus a scrub.

It makes me a helluva lot more comfy with the trading up/down to come away with Revis, Thomas Jones and Harris... and it looks like, unlike alot of other teams, we got day 2 picks that will stick.
