Anybody here had LASIK done before? I've been wanting it for a while now and wanted to hear from some people that have had it. Things I'm curious about would be price, level of pain/discomfort, and obviously results. Thanks.

Cool, that's what I've heard. One of my buddies had it and he's also close to 20/15 BUT he now has to wear glasses when he's reading, which he didn't have to do before. I guess I could live with that but I'm wondering if it's something that's common.

Buzz, my wife had it done about 4 years ago and her vision is 20/15 as well. She does have to wear reading glasses, but for a person in her mid-forties that is probably common anyway. I can't remember the cost but if I remember correctly, it was about 2K per eye. I think the cost maybe less now-a-days though. Very-little discomfort due to this procedure. I may have it done myself!

I was wondering this myself. Can it fix really bad vision? And can you be too old?

I had it done about 7 years ago. Went off without a hitch, though I sort of freaked when he started the 2nd eye. I could smell burning hair, which was the corneal tissue frying.

They tell you to stare at a light while the laser does it's thing. With 2 valiums in me, I ended up staring at the red light instead, until I realised it was the laser. :D

I don't think being 'too old' is an issue. Too young is an issue. If you're eyes are still changing, the surgery will need to be redone at some point. If you go to a reputable surgeon (a.k.a. pay big $$$), you can request the surgery again, for free.

My only side effect is I'm a bit sensitive to light. I wear sunglasses even on cloudy days. Fluorescent lights bug me. I also ended up needing reading glasses, though I don't use them. I just get brighter light bulbs. Lazik doesn't resolve post-40 frequent need for reading glasses.

I'm still 20-25. My biggest problem is buying a lot of sunglasses. Between breaking them, losing them, etc, I must have gone thru 20 of them.

If you're a candidtate, go for it. Check out the facts and your surgeon beforehand though. It would suck to be one of the 3% to 5% that have bad side effects. I reseached the subject for a year and finally went thru it only because I would have lost $3k in deferred medical. I picked the best around - Dr. Fichman near Hartford. He was one of the first in the US to do it and had the latest technology.

Don't even hesitate. Best money I ever spent. Freakin' incredible. I can see perfect now, was 20/200 before. No brainer. Just research the doctor and go to an experienced one with multiple references and you'll be fine. :cool:

A little pain the first night or two but nothing you can't handle. You sleep with eye patches so you don't scratch your eyeballs. Believe me, you'll be glad you did it.

I had it done about 8-9 years ago.

Pre-op was about 20 minutes and featured a soft felt tip marker being lightly tapped on my eyeball to calibrate the guidance system on the machine.

The doctor then used a spreader-type device to expose my eyeball and to prevent me from blinking.

The actual proceedure lasted about 10 minutes and featured my eyesight diluted, looking as if light water drops had enetered my eyeball as the Doctor opened the film that encloses your eye lens and when the laser was operating, it felt as if air was being pressed down into my eyeball.

The proceedure lasted about 15 minutes, it was not painful at all, just at times uncomfortable.

I went home with protective plastic eyeglass lens type coverings taped to my eyes in case of a car accident (my parents drove) and went in for my post-op check up th enext morning. I was immediately seeing at a 20/25 level, impressive considering I was at 20/200-250.

Today, I still have 20/15, 20/20 vision in each eye. I can defintely vouch for its quick proceedure and long term success.

BuZZsaw! I had Lasik seven years ago and I can honestly tell you that it was the best $2000 dollars that I have ever spent.

The doctor put drops in my eys at 9:00AM and I was out the door at 9:30! There is absolutely no pain (just a little discomfort and apprehension, on my part). THe doctor even meesed up making the flap on my right eye, so I had to go back six months later to have it done. It really wasn't a problem at all though.

My vision went from 20/600 to 20/20 with major astigmatism to completely normal. I wore glasses/contacts for about 30 years!

You can see a little right after; however, you have to wear a plastic shield over them the first night.

Again, lasik was the best $2000 that I have ever spent!

I don't know...when I had mine done the Doctor slipped, the laser raced across my face horribly disfiguring me. After the anguish of now always looking like an angry troll doll I began lurching around, mumbling my words and sleeping with married women. The last horrible metamorphasis was when I had the urge to wear frayed, ketchup stained short sleeved hoodies and an urge to video tape things.

I had it done back in 1997 by Laser one on 42 and Park. Best thing I ever did. It took 25 seconds to do in my right eye and 51 seconds in the left. I was able to see as soon as I got out and got the train home. You do have to rest your eyes for a while and where goggles to bed or sleep to make sure you dont rub them. within 2 days I was able to sleep without them I went from 20/200 to 20/20 after 6 months. The one thing you will have to get over time will be reading glasses. I dont need them yet but i can see it coming. had it done last month....Best Money I ever spent...takes bout hr prep time 2 mins of acutally surgery

2 hrs of discomfort after that

bout two weeks of irritation

wish i would of done it sooner

highlY recommended

I'm interested in doing it, I live in contacts, but I am scared to do the procedure...

I only have 1 set of eyes, and don't want to deal with double vision or night vision.

I am also a firefighter and can't take a chance of taking a blow to the head having vision screwed up because the flap never reattaches.

Best money I have ever spent in my life.

My contacts were in the -6's. I had it done over a year ago. My doctor down here in FL (Dr. Srini Mutuyala), was a little pricey but was well worth it for this guy, around $5k total. Pain/Discomfort, none. Once it was over, I did not open up my eyes at all, keep them closed. I went to sleep (took a Xanax before surgery, given by Dr.), woke up around 10 p.m. and everything was pretty clear. You have to make sure you continually use the rewetting drops and also use the medicine, which is a little nasty, but you only use it for a week.
