Rumor: Drob for Mike Peterson? (merged)

N.F.L. Combine News/Rumor Mill, Directly From Indy [Part Six B]:

Rumor around Indy is that veteran linebacker Derrick Smith (ex-San Francisco) has signed with the Chargers. Word is Cleveland and the Patriots were interested him...Also, we heard the Carolina Panthers will likely announce the signing of wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad to a deal Monday (one year, $1.5 million).......Additionally, there were some rumors in Indy about Jacksonville and the New York Jets talking about a Dwayne Robertson for Mike Peterson swap.

I love Peterson and the way he plays but isn't he a pure 4-3 backer? Kind of similar to Vilma? Even if he is a 4-3 fit I would have to have him on the team and for D-Rob? Thats a steal IMO.

Let's remember, even guys like Peterson and others aren't the perfect LB fit for us....WE NEED BODIES. We play a 3-4 so we need at least 4 starters and several backups plus it looks like Hobson is a goner and we're trying to trade Vilma. Who the heck is going to play LB for the Jets in 2008? I see Harris, Barton and Bryan Thomas....and I'd still like to upgrade Barton or possibly Thomas. So, I have no problem trading for a talented LB.

Who knows, maybe Mangini is pulling his head out of his *** and going back to the 4-3.

We would have a f***ing mean 4-3 defense.

no..we wouldn't....the jets don't just play strictly 3-4...the grass isn't always greener...

i'd consider it, as a way of getting rid of DRob's monster contract. however, given that Peterson will be 32 when the season starts, is undersized for the 3-4, and hasn't been healthy in 2 years, i wouldn't do the trade straight-up.

the Jags stand to gain far more from this trade than the Jets (imagine DRob next to John Henderson), additional compensation is required.

Maybe im thinking a little too much here but maybe we trade D-Rob to Jax for Peterson. Then ship Peterson and a 4th rounder to Detroit for Shaun Rogers. This way everyone wins. Jax gets their guy to play along side John Henderson, Detroit gets their 4-3 linebacker with a draft pick and the Jets get their bonafide 3-4 NT and also get rid of D-Robs contract.

Sounds like a baseball type trade.

I'd take a bag of potato chips for D-Slob and his ENORMOUS contract..... so getting an aging yet talented player to play OLB, sounds good to me..... especially since our starting OLB's that we are hoping to preasure the opposing QB's next season, are, at this moment, Brian Thomas and David Bowens.

As much as I would love to get rid of DRob, I don't think Peterson would do us much good if he is a 4-3 linebacker. We might as well keep DRob and Vilma.
