OT: Funny Games: BAD ASS MOVIE
Anyone seen it? It's good, real good if you ask me, but wow... it was weird. Like nothing I've seen before.
It stars Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, and Michael Pitt. One word to describe this film would have to be... disturbing [url] Last edited by Tyler Durden; 06-15-2008 at 04:32 AM. |

This film was mentioned in a horror movie thread awhile back. I didn't realize they made a remake of it. I figured it would be too far out there for US audiences.
As you said, a disturbing work that is just way off the scripted hollywood trail. |

Nothing like Clockwork Orange. Only way to describe it really is that it's supposed to be the directors commentary on television violence and the current fascination with torture porn movies like Hostel and the many other junk horror movies coming out. The acting in the remake is good, except for Tim Roth (useless), and it's redone almost shot for shot, but the tension Heinke builds in the original by pacing it a tad bit slower and with superior performances by the parents, just makes the film more intense. The Austrian film is worth seeing if you liked the remake.

Now that you mention it, if I hadn't already seen both movies, the preview does remind me of Clockwork. Weird. |

Why are they making another one? I saw the original one a while back and it was disturbing with a very chaotic ending.U.S directors need to get their act straight.

It's the same writer/director as the Austrian film. He even shot it the same shot for shot, but it seemed a little more sped up for ADD Americans. If foreign films are going to be remade, might as well have the original director do it. Has anyone seen "The Strangers"? Wanted to check it out, but it looked like a cheap rip off of this film. Is it any good? |

No no O brothers this can't be nothing like the old in and out. Couldn't be better than our humble narrator and his three droogs in with the bit of the old ultra violence. Please now, there's no comparison.

It's definitely a unique and interesting movie... But it was a little preachy for me. He's basically judging the audience for attending a movie that was marketed as a home invasion/horror movie. The director had a famous quote about the movie, the jist of which was "if you left during the movie you didn't need to see it."
I watched the whole thing and it just felt hollow. Didn't make a huge connection with the characters, so there wasn't a ton of impact... Didn't think it was great by any stretch. |

I haven't seen the domestic remake, but i did see the originaly back some 5 years ago. truly a monument if social commentary about violence. disturbing. my only quirb about it was the scene with the remote control. Didn't feel it was necessary. felt like the director did that just avoid remind ppl with weak stomachs that it was movie

Come on, obviously they ripped off Kubrick with that preview and they made no secret about the fact that they were doing it. |
