are you kidding me????

everything is peachy????

you have to be speaking sarcastically.......I mean...you have to...

peachy??? really????

(that's right...the more question marks I use the more legit my question is!!!!)
For me? Sure it is.

I'm a hard worker, gainfully employed, out of debt now, engaged and getting past all the mistakes of my youth.

I think life is pretty good.

What do you think I have to be concerned about?
Well, as you'd expect I bolded that because of how much I generally disagree.

The only troubles I see these days are the misguided policies of Democrats, most of which will hurt me if they win (when they win) in November.

But even then, life today is in America is still stunning great. Maybe you have complaints you feel are legit, and that fine, but other than the ongoing evil of Political Correctness run rampant and an ongoing desire of the Supreme Court to take away my rights and Democrats to take away my income for redistribution, life is pretty damn peachy.
that's because you're "independent"
I don't know how old Al Gore is but wasn't he around in the 70's when people had to wait in lines at the gas station and interest rates were in the high teens? Seems alot worse than nowadays.
our national debt was at or less than 1 TRILLION dollars... in just 30 years, Reagan, Bush I, partially Clinton, and W's tenures, we are no 10 TRILLION dollars in the red

you may think everything is just fine and peachy, but those debts have to be repaid. And we are still hemorrhaging money at clips of several hundred billions a year! my generation, my kids, my grandkids, etc... will be paying for this mess

we just lost the 4th amendment for all intensive purposes with the new FISA bill

our currency is an equivalent of a 3rd world countries due to the systematic devaluation by the (non-)"Federal" Reserve and the international bankers/financiers and their cronies in Washington

health care costs are growing exponentially with no end in site, and no solution possible since DC is in bed with the HMOs & pharmaceuticals. The Doctors AND the patients get screwed, but big business always wins when DC has it's say

If you ask me, the monetary and fiscal policy we have today is much worse than what Volker did with interest rates in the late 70s which was the medicine that we needed at that time, and the evidence is the mid-late 80s economic boom which is usually mis-creditted to Reagan's tax policies and de-regulation which actually caused a lot more harm then good, and is partially responsible for a lot of the problems we have today (national debt, a big chunk of it anyways; deregulation caused the current sub-prime mess as well as the MBS's or mortgage derivatives mess)

and the moral of the story kids is that, apparently if you stick your head in the sand (or up your ass) far enough, you really can insulate yourself from reality

That sounds like the liberal approach to terrorism.

actually, it sounds like the neo-conservative approach to terrorism if you ask me... what with ignoring the cause & effect relationships and if anything exasperating the tensions in Islamic world and increasing anti-American sentiment around the world including with our allies for crying out loud

if that's the case, there shouldn't have been any attacks during the Clinton years.

Why were there?

So you think you know my life better than I do, eh?

Great! Tell me what is "wrong" in America that I should be personally as concerned as you seem to think I should be.

And really Tang, "head in the sand"? Would someone with their head in the sand (or up their ass as you so colorfully claimed mine is) listen to your endless petulent whining, gurning and complaining day after day after day after day?

My reality is a-ok. Sorry if yours sucks, although given what youve posted about yoruself it certainly sounds like a great life, the envy of 99% of the worlds population, but eh.

I guess I am whatever it is you think I am Tang, if that makes you happy (as clearly you are not happy at all).

And I would expect you to take issue with my contentment and happiness, you ARE a liberal after all, and happiness and liberalism seem to be mutually exclusive terms these days. Complaining how bad things are and how bad WE are is pretty much waht you folks do best. Hell, it's about the only thing you actually DO these days, complain and enact socialist policies that mean well and fail utterly in their purposes.

I certainly don't complain out my own life... I am blessed and I know it, and very very thankful for it. Perhaps it (plus working from home 4 days now) gives me more time to worry about the bigger, macro-issues which we as a nation, a society and a planet/world face... dunno

in any event I gave a brief list to jetfan78 in this thread, so take that as an appetizer and have at it

I'm psyched that you're content and happy, I want nothing less for you and most people here...

I honestly hope you are as personally happy as I am, because then you're doing pretty well since I'm always smiling... and you do seem genuinely happy personally... I think you're mistaken about larger macro issues that may not directly affect you but are very serious and off track (and you being "independent" as I rarely see you post something negative about the GOP, but quite often about the Dems.), but I have no issue with your contentment and anyone who does is a bigger a-hole then even I am! :D
I think you're mistaken about larger macro issues that may not directly
Don;t misunderstand "can't do a damn thing about it" with a lack of understanding of effect.

Yes, some of the things you mention will most definitely effect me, negatively to some degree or another (as will so many Democrats ideal under President Obama), although we disagree on some as to the level of effect (for example, iIdisagree with yoru entire idea re: "loss" of the 4th amendment).

And I have concern over OTHER issue you love to no end, Universal healthcare and the advancement of socialism and illegal immigration for example.

But with respect, there is absolutely nothing you or I can do to change them. Inflate your ego to feel powerful if you need, but I'm a realist. Macro is macro for a reason, individuals like me do not control them or effect them.

These issues are not controlled by me, and I cannot change them. So I won't let them bother me as much, beyond complianing and debating here, which is frankly for entertainment value only......you don't really think your changing any minds or doing some kind of good here, do you? Please tell me you're not that naive, cause I don't think you are.
and you being "independent" as I rarely see you post something negative about the GOP, but quite often about the Dems.),
No, thats just your view of what I say, kinda like those who claim I'm a big Bush supporter (even though even a simple search will show how often I've called him an abject failure, and one of the worst presidents in history).

I have no love for Republicans. They claim to stand for far more of what I stand for, but it's mostly just that....claims, not actions. You seem to expect me to fall to my knees and yell "yes, I'm no Independant, I'm a GOP operative!". Just isn't gonna happen my friend. Call me whatever you need to, I stopped trying to call myself things a while ago. None of whcih changes the fact that republicans have also done nothing to earn my vote, and they will not get it by default just because the Dems are more obvious in their anti-Warfish's-beliefs policies.

There is no poilitcal party for me. There is no representation for me.

Is what it is, I'll work hard and thrive no matter which party tries to screw me.

interesting take... I consider my big issues (no order, and might be missing something)):

Environment
Decriminalization of victim-less crimes
Deficits / Debt / Monetary Policy / (non-)"Federal" Reserve
Violations of the Constitution
Foreign policy

universal healthcare doesn't make my top 5 if you ask me... sure I have a strong opinion on it (on most things actually :D), and one that is at least semi-informed being that I'm Canadian citizen and have relatives there and have used the system previously... but it's not super important to me, there are other bigger concerns of mine

I generally agree with Gore's comments, he probably could have left out the "10 years" part but certainly going "green" isnt a bad thing for our economy, environment, etc.
ew, you're canadian?
well by citizenship I'm:

American
Canadian

and applying for my Croatian citizenship (which will ultimately enable me to get an EU passport and make traveling there much easier)

by heritage, rough percentages:

50% Croatian (/Italian?)*
40% German
10% English

by length of time in US:

Mom's side can be traced back to 1600s
Dad's side I'm the first generation born her

* Island where my father is from was Italy when my grandparents were born, grandfather was in the Italian Navy during WWII (my other grand father was in the US Army Airforce and they were fighting against one another lol) and receives an Italian pension. After WII it becamse Yugoslavia, and my father growing up spoke Latin in church, Italian in school and Croatian/Italian at home. Finally they escaped communist Yugoslavia to Italy and lived there for several years, and then immigrated to Canada (US was not accepting political refugees from Yugoslavia at that time). It is possible for me to get an Italian citizenship as well, however I would never do so as that would ruin all my anti-Italian jokes I tease my wife and in-laws with (100% Italian)

Another interesting note is my father and I root for Croatia in Euro national football (read: soccer) or the World Cup, but my grandfather roots for Italy (who has never beaten Croatia, only tied and lost to them... however obviously has a better & longer history and championships)... which makes for some interesting football watching :D
