Actually, there was "ethnic cleansing" in Baghdad (really, of neighborhoods in Baghdad) and it had little to do with death squads (other than as an effect). What Obama is talking about is the fact that many formerly mixed Baghdadi neighborhoods are now relatively mono-ethnic; Sunni families moved out of majority Shia areas and vice versa. And he's right that it happened. But that's not why the violence level is down
While you are right, theres a good chunk of people either sunni or shia who left the formerly mixed neighborhoods, they did not leave because they simply wanted to. Death squads were responsible for kidnappings and murders (you know, those dead bodies discovered in sewers and mass graves). They left because they were forced to leave at gun point. Call them death squads, call them ethnic police, terrorist groups ..whatever. They are all the same. And yes, the violence is down in part because of the success of this ethnic cleansing program. Middle East experts like Fareed Zakaria and Juan Cole have attributed this to play a role in the decline in violence. There is little doubt this played a role

If you only pay attention when Hussein mispeaks, you'd always be paying attention. This tool can't open his mouth without sticking his foot in it.

How do I define winning? Iraq today vs. Iraq when the Dems declared it lost and Obama demanded immediate withdrawl. To me, the difference is a victory!
Victory !!! Winning!!!
These are great words. Of course your statement has no meaning. You havent defined anything. You defined winning as victory. Nice. Keep repeating those words, maybe you will find a few idiots who will believe in them
That's convenient.

Wouldn't it be nice if the NFL allowed the teams to define their own terms of victory?

"sure the Jets scored less points than the Pats, but they played better than last week, that's a victory"

moving the goalposts is fun.
And btw, you got it all wrong Bit.

What you and Ken and your ilk are saying is effectively:

"Yea, the Jets Scored more points and dominated on offense and defense, but they didn't do it the way they originally planned back in training camp, so even though they have more points, we still have to give them a loss today".

I wasn't paranoid on 911, and I suspect that most Americans weren't paranoid on that day.

I'm sure the children and teachers in Beslan weren't paranoid back in 2004.

Citizens of Madrid were probably not paranoid in 2004 either.

I take my lessons from your Empty Suit Messiah.

The man of a thousand empty catchphrases.

Think he'll specificly "define victory" in Afganistan and Pakistan (where he is planning to throw multiple additional U.S. divisions when he gets elected) or Iraq (where he will keep some amount of U.S. Forces) any time soon?

No?

Well, why should I be held to a different standard than the man running (and soon to be winning) the Presidency?
Uhhh, do you doubt that the successful ethnic cleansing campaigns at the hands of Shia Death Squads has lead to a decrease in the level of violence we see today??? Most of the fighting was between Iraqi Sunni and Shia groups vying for power (contrary to the popular belief that it was AQ behind most of the violence). The Shia Death Squads were very successful in shifting the ethnic demographics of Baghdad and many other Iraqis cities that were previously mixed. As the cities became mostly Shia the violence has dropped. The Shia Death Squads succeeded. This has truly lead to the drop in violence along with other factors. Obama was right.
where did you read this?

BAGHDAD, July 21 (RIA Novosti) - Iraq's investment committee is studying projects proposed by U.S. and Russian firms to turn Saddam Hussein's palace near the site of ancient Babylon into a tourist site with a casino, an Iraqi paper said.

Government paper Al-Sabah quoted Saleh al-Muslimawi, governor of the Babil Province about 85 kilometers (55 mi) south of Baghdad, as saying that the projects also entailed the restoration of museums in Babylon. He declined to give the companies' names.

No. A better analogy is "the Jets went into the game with the intention of winning. They were down 45-0 at the half. After the half they changed strategy and scored 38 points only to see the score 45-38 as the clock ran down to zero" . Now guys of Warfish's ilk are saying, see we won the game, even if we did not achive our goal of winning.

Thats our Ken, always the cheerleader for defeat.

Because by any measure we got "outscored" in Iraq.

Im not cheerleading for defeat. Thats a cute little slogan, BTW, how original. I pray for America to always come on top. But im a realist. I know sh!t when i smell it. And no matter how much cologne you spray on it, I know what you are buying into is nothing but sh!t.

No, we dont get outscored by "any" measure. Only the measure that was set forth from the beginning. Of course if you move the goalpost the way Warfish does, you can call anything a victory.
