Morning Practice 8/13
Just got back from Hofstra for the mornings practice. There is relly a sence of sadness from the regulars that the JETS are leaving soon. Here are a couple of my observations:
- Bret Favre is starting to look like the leader on offense in the huddle and on the sidelines. - Coles and Favre speak often throughout the practice. At times laughing and discussing plays. I have no worries that there are any ill feelings. - Favre hits Brad Smith for a long TD. - Ratliff relieved Favre in 7-7 drills and many fans were buzzing that he replaced Clemens on the debth chart (maybe). He quickly showed why he is clearly the number three/practice squad by over and under throwing receivers. Not his sharpest day.................. - Clemens moves the team in the two minute drill and Nugent comes in and nails a long FG. (50+) - Favre throws a few deep balls right on the money that were dropped by Coles and Cotchery. - Favre threw an INT to Abraham Elam. - Favre runs a another lap with Mangold because of a bad exchange. The crowd gives a huge cheer once again. - D'Brickashaw Ferguson dominated all DE in drills. Manhandled Pace on one play. He looks stronger and confident. - D'Brickashaw Ferguson absolutly LOCKED UP Gholston on one play that received "ooooohs and ahhhs" from the crowd. - Lowery and Revis looked impressive in drills today. - David Harris practiced. - Lots of focus on the STs and Secondary today. - Ben Graham punted well. - David Clowney fell to the ground with what looked like a heat related issue. (I hope) - The new OLINE-MAN that was signed (forget his name) is HUGE. - We have many weapons on returns from the STs unit. Leon, Miller, Revis, Lowery, Smith, and Stuckey can all return punts well. - Fanaca, D'BRICK, and Mangold continue to bond and are constantly talking to eachother. - The JETS SHOP has gone way over board with everything Bret Favre. It's a little pathetic. Chad Pennigton jerseys are 50% percent off by the way............( a little sad ) It was a great visit out to Hofstra as always. A big part of my life has been spent out at Hofstra over the years watching my favorite team. I cant believe they are leaving soon for Floram Park, NJ. I will miss this dearly......... The biggest positive I take out of this report is the fact that D'Brick was once again solid. I think this will be his turn around year, possibly even a pro bowl

Don't forget the end of the two minute drills. Farve hit a wide open Smith streaking down the sidelines for a long TD. Then Clemens ran the drill, got to the 35 and Nuge drilled a 52 yarder with plenty of room to spare.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Pro Bowl, but I think he'll have his best year, no doubt. |

Thanks for the response RL. D'BRICK looks noticably larger and is just a "wall" when it comes to protecting the QB. While Favre didnt play great this morning he did look and act like he was starting to fit in and be the leader that he is. I was impressed with how he is conversing and bonding with his teammates.......... |

Great report as always, Cop.
I too share your feelings about spending many years of my life attending TC. Gonna be a big part of my life that will sadly come to an end. |

I feel like I want to go right back out there again for the afternoon practice knowing that they are leaving soon. Many of the regulars out at Hofstra today were expressing the same thing. Got a weird "dead man walking" type feeling be there today. I am really going to miss it............. |

The skinny posts are at the end of the turf field. Today they practiced on the grass. So yes, they still use them, just not today. |

I'm crossing my fingers that we get the Brett Favre that throws 65% of his passes for completions, more touchdowns than interceptions, and is a perennial MVP candidate and not the guy that throws just as many interceptions as touchdowns!!
It's great that you've been so close to practice. Hopefully you'll be able to make it out to Jersey once and a while as well! :) |

Thanks for the report Cop. Love to hear all of it.
While it has been 10 years since I moved I had been going to Hofstra since 75 when we moved to Hicksville. I remember the Sack Exchange days and how primitive the place looked then compared to now. It was pretty sparse back in the days of Todd and McNeil. Great fun. It is sad that the Jets have no real traditions. Sad very sad. |

Heat related issue for a guy built like Clowney? Don't like the sounds of that at all.

He dropped like a ton of bricks. He was on the ground for about five minutes and it loked like they were ptting cold wet towels over his head. I dont believe he returned. |

I was just talking to a fan that was expressing the same. How it became more fan friendly in the past few seasons. bac in the day was a small picket fence with not much more........... |

I would think so. Miller is like Otis Smith without the interceptions. |
