Latest Cabinet Update: Tom Daschle Reportedly Accepts HHS

Looks like Daschle will lead the big healthcare-reform push as secretary of health and human services.

Not a big surprise. He's highly knowledgeable on the subject and was an early Senate mentor and supporter of Obama's.

From Politico...
Former Senator Majority leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) will be secretary of Health and Human Services in the Obama administration, a senior Democratic official said.

Daschle was also considered for health care czar in the White House, but the transition team decided he could be more effective with “Secretary” in front of his name.

“Of all the proposals that Obama wants to enact, health care requires the most input and tough negotiations and shepherding,” the official said.“No one knows the House and Senate like Tom Daschle.”

Daschle was also considered for White House chief of staff, before that post when to Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.). Roll Call first reported the Daschle move to HHS Wednesday morning.
More change?

Nothing like digging up partisan senators from the past to bring change to Washington. LOL

Yeah, he's a Democrat but I don't really remember him as some sort of partisan warrior. He's --as one would expect from a South Dakota Democrat-- on the conservative side of the party and pretty mild mannered in general.
