What's going on in NY you ask?

- They just spent $21k for a rug at the Governor's mansion
- They want to reinstitute the commuter tax, but still want to rebate $400 to city residents
- They just renamed the Triborough the RFK, only problem $4mm in signage fees pending
- The MTA says it is running out of money and has to slash service and raise fees, the same week a news report ran on employees actually spending 1-2 hours a day working and the balance tending to such pressing matters as, reading novels, checking on their bars, working out, and napping

Anyone feel as though there is some funny business going on?

That was for signs and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. You know, the important stuff.

Here is something my brother wrote the day Bloomberg proposed all the PAINFUL new policies and policy changes a few weeks ago:

here's your new day under mayor bloomberg:

you get up in the morning, and write your rent check. you notice that it's
increased by 15% year over year in a declining housing market because of
property tax increases. ok, whatever. now you drive to work and get stuck in
horrible traffic that hasn't been dealt with because bloomberg can't get
anything past albany. oh no! you're stuck in the box. here comes a $500
ticket from bloomberg's new traffic enforcers.

you get to work. ok, well, your company is moving a bunch of business lines
to jersey city because they can't find any large floorplans for their new
trading desk because the freedom tower hasn't been built. great.

now you get in your car to go home, and you realize that it's been stolen,
so you have to take the subway, which is filthy, late and crowded.

well, you had a rough day, so you want to go to a bar and unwind, but you
can't smoke in the bar, and it's cold out, so you just sit at home and watch
the jets play on thursday night. oh, wait, you can't get the NFL network,
and you can't go to the game because it's in new jersey, and your car was
robbed.

NY is not alone. Pretty much every state government is looking at fiscal pain right now. The economy is putting a chokehold on tax revenue, costs are soaring for things like infrastructure repair, health care, etc...

California has the biggest deficit in its history, I read recently. I know our city gov here in Chicago just laid off a bunch of people (sadly not the patronage employees).

There's no shortage of pain to go around.

Is the inept MTA applying for some of the Bailout money too? Or do only inept car manufacturers and inept bankers get that?

The point of my post was not the pain, it was the way it is being distributed...how about some of these agencies/companies/unions tighten their belts a bit instead of passing it along?

Did anyone see the MTA report I spoke of on ABC news? infuriating
