Yeah, but that doesn't make it not a clear PK.

US could have 2 or 3, but Italy could easily have 2 as well. Both teams have had 2 or 3 good chances

I take it Italy won.

Is that really a surprise? Especially after the US going down to 10 men?

final score: 3-1.

no surprise, but it probably hurts them more after losing a guy on a questionable red card and going up 1-0.

kinda bitter sweet today

im full italian, but born and raised in the u.s.

can someone please inform the u.s. that just because someone isnt in the 18 that they can still shoot the ball? i mean holy crap, its like if anyone is outside the 18 with the ball they wont cover him, 2 of the goals were long shots with not one man on, it was almost as bad as the costa rica game. im really tired of this team having the potential to do something special but fall flat on their face when it counts

and good for rossi, kid is a great player

He's good in Europe... he's terrible for the US.

The US was killed, KILLED, by their complete inability to finish. Altidore and Bradley both couldn't finish great balls that Donovan sent through in the 1st half.

THen Davies had an open header he missed in the 2nd half that would have tied the score late in the match.

The best teams finish those opportunities, or at least 1 or 2 of them.

The red card was questionable, but not outrageous. With a little luck, Donovan's mugging in the box could have been called a penalty also,. Though, he probably didn't have a shot at the ball anyhow

I didn't realize Rossi was from NJ until just recently. I think that's pretty cool.

I think it sucks.

I should just give up on the US, embrace my Italianness and root for Italy like you do. I have a couple of cousins who do that, it could work.

Sounds like you missed it?

The 1st half of the game was much better than the 2nd (obviously ).

For awhile the US looked pretty decent. Probably more maddening this time because it looked like they really had a chance (or two), but got sloppy a few times, and then Italy drove home the heart breaking daggers (not like they've ever done that to a few teams before).

It's games like this that have you feeling the USMNT isn't that far off (as opposed to the Costa Rica debacle), but then they come up just short-crashing back to reality.

On a side note: I haven't watched Altidore play that much before, but the kid looks like a diver in the past 2-3 games. Exciting young talent for the US though.

Is this the right place to discuss why the US underachieves in soccer? I think American players are overcoached and thats why there is no such thing as an American soccer style. Everyone knows there is a Brazilian style, a Dutch style and so on, what is the American style? Our players go out there and do it just like the coach drew it up on the chalk board. There is never any spontaneous play making based on a shared sense of what a scoring play looks like or shared habits or shared anything meaning there is no American style of play. Our players aren't the best in the world but they are better than their record, we need a coach who will trust his players and just say "go get 'em!"

The US doesn't have any midfield play at all. It looks like they try to break on the outside and sometimes they looked good at it. Donovan played a good game but that's about it. Pirlo is amazing.

I'm watching the replay on espn right now... what's the deal with the background noise? It sounds like a swarm of bees. Is that my tv or is that horns and noisemakers in the crowd?
