Weatherford & Ellis(illness) questionable, Strickland out

January 1, 2010 2:14 PM No Comments .Jets punter tweaks hammy, questionable »
By Kristie Ackert

As the Jets prepare for their biggest game of the year, they will have to take time to audition punters tomorrow. Steve Weatherford "tweaked" his right hamstring today, according to coach Rex Ryan and is listed as questionable for Sunday' night's game against the Bengals.

"We'll work some guys out tomorrow," Ryan said.

Kicker Jay Feely would be the backup punter.

DE Shaun Ellis will also be listed as questionable when the injury report comes out later today. Eillis, who did not practice today, was sent home with an illness - not the knee problem that had him limited earlier in the week Ryan said.

CB Donald Strickland (quad) will be out Sunday night.

Probables will be RB Shonn Greene (shoulder), QB Mark Sanchez (knee) and OL Robert Turner (knee).

Didn't Revis go home earlier in the week with an "illness"? This isn't good....

Revis was at practice today and feeling much better after feeling ill from something he ate on Tuesday. Revis said he reported to the facility on Wednesday morning and was sent home to recover but now he is feeling great and ready to play on Sunday against Ochocinco.

yea but I think that was very early in the week. Perhaps Monday. I think he's been back practicing in full since. Shonn Greene is practicing in full as well.

Bernard Scott of the Bengals also has and illness but is listed as probable. Some kind of bug going around the league. Both teams effected

This team has a history of being bitten by a flu bug at this time of year. I always thought that Al Davis had figured out how to slip some food poisoning to John Abraham but maybe there is a larger karmic imperative at work here.

Weatherford wasn't exactly launching unreturnable kicks out there but I do understand how the list of things that could go wrong with a new guy is longer and more serious however.

Perhaps there are statistics ;) on this kind of thing.

I think Davis arranged for an "open bar" in Abe's room.....

Not for nothing but we tried out enough punters this year that we should have a long list...

Really hope that Ellis can recover 100% from this illness before we play the Bengals. This could be a tough loss, Ellis has always been the heart and soul of the Jets D-Line.

Agreed, I was critical of him at times last year for not making enough impact plays but the guy has been a beast this year.

On 3rd down sanchez just needs to toss an INT 50 yards downfield and hope the WR can tackle the guy quick. Would probably be better than the punts we have been getting recently anyway.

actually Wetherford has done a pretty nice job of punting this season

consistent kicks, no shanks, putting it inside the 20, limiting returnable line drives

Weatherford has consistenly kicked short and he has had a fair number of shanks. We are 17th in net punting yards.
