Ellis back at Jets practice
Comment Email Print Share
Associated Press
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis has returned to practice on a limited basis with a broken left hand.

Ellis, one of the Jets' top pass rushers, was injured early in the team's victory at San Diego on Sunday. He missed practice Wednesday, but was on the field in a cast Thursday and is expected to play in the AFC championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Safety Kerry Rhodes bumped his knee and was limited during practice, as were linebackers Bart Scott (left ankle) and David Harris (right ankle). All are expected to play.

Fullback Tony Richardson (ribs) and cornerback Donald Strickland (broken finger) were full participants, as were quarterback Mark Sanchez (knee) and wide receiver Danny Woodhead (knee).

Rhodes bangs knee in practice »

By Rich Cimini

Another busy day here in Florham Park, where I could have voting rights if the season stretches beyond this week:

The news today centered on S Kerry Rhodes, whose right knee was heavily wrapped after colliding with a teammate in practice. He was added to the Jets’ injury report for the AFC Championship Game Sunday against the Colts. Rex Ryan said Rhodes “bumped” his knee, claiming he will be fine for the game even though he didn’t finish practice.

That portion of practice was closed to the media, but one player who witnessed it said Rhodes' injury doesn't appear serious at all.

Rhodes limped in and out of the locker room during the media period, not stopping to speak with reporters. He's a vital piece on defense because he could be assigned to cover TE Dallas Clark. In the last meeting, S Eric Smith drew the assignment for much of the game, in a three-safety nickel defense, but Rhodes did a good job last week on Chargers TE Antonio Gates.

Nickel back Donald Strickland (broken finger) also was added to the injury report, but he participated in a full practice.
