Dry-hopping is adding hops to the beer when you move it to the secondary fermenter (If you ferment in the primary only, add them after a few days.) Dry-hopping mainly enhances the aroma of the brew, but it also adds some extra flavor. |

I've never used Beer Tools. I have tried the free trials of BeerSmith and ProMash. I ended up buying ProMash...it was awhile ago, so I can't remember what I liked better about ProMash now. People swear by BeerSmith, though. I'm sure they both do an adequate job. I think both are around $20...use the free trials and see what you like better. Not sure if BeerTools has one.

If I dry hop, should I just take the same hops I used during the boil, or are there hops that work better for dry-hopping?

Yeah for aroma you really need fermentation to be complete. If the beer is still releasing carbon dioxide the aroma of the hops is being let out as well. Your room will smell nice, but it won't do much for the beer.

Your beer is high gravity, which means it's most likely pretty malty. The extra hops will hopefully balance it out.

I just throw in a handful of hops in there and let it infuse for what 2-3 days? Also concerning my high OG, would you suggest I NOT add sugar when re-racking? |
