What is the hype about this kid? He's a lanky DE/OLB who is very fast/athletic, but hasn't shown much in production on paper. Bit or CBNY is he a bust in the making? Cause he sure sounds like one and I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

The next biggest bust ever since super-mega-bust Vernon Gholston.

I think he's more Bobby McCray than whoever people think the NFL thinks this guy is.

Very athletic but raw as hell, he will get schooled at the next level. It will take him 3 to 4 years to get it but it will be too late, such is the plight of the raw college DE. They all struggle, rarely do you see a guy like Orakpo come in and get 11 sacks as a rook... in fact, that's the most sacks by a rookie DE since 87, that should tell you something. The art of the pass rush takes years to develop and that's what people don't get, it's an art.

Lindy's says it's the most by a rookie since 87, don't think Wimbley got 11 as a rook. Speaking of Wimbley... That's one that got away from us, I love him. Fck!

They said the same thing about ELVIS DUMERVIL too and look at how wrong they were.

Jason Pierre-Paul sucks. He's extremely overrated. He's a third-round caliber player in my opinion.

...did you even think before you posted that? JPP is being drafted completely on measurables. This was the take on Dum before he was drafted:
He emerged during the 2004 season as a junior, recording 10 sacks and 11 tackles for a loss. His 2005 season was one of the best for a defensive end in both NCAA and school history, when he broke the NCAA single-game sack record (6) in a game against rival the University of Kentucky, and break the NCAA record for forced fumbles. His sack total also broke the Big East record set by Dwight Freeney, who was a player that Elvis desired to emulate. He won several awards for the 2005 season, including the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Ted Hendricks Award, Big East player of the year, and First-team All-American.

Despite his collegiate success and comparisons to Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney, Dumervil was selected on the second day of the NFL draft due to concerns about his small size (5'11", 258 lbs), and the fact that he went without a sack in his final three collegiate games. This may have been due to his being consistently doubled teamed, but it was perceived by some as a sign of fatigue. Several teams considered moving him to linebacker or only using him in pass rushing situations.
Not what I would call a lack of production or even perceived lack of production.

They're polar opposites.

Dumervil was the little guy with great production.

JPP is a giant with great athleticism and very average production.

his moderate production was given high praise by mayock though. said that most of his drawbacks were experience and growth related. He didn't see anything that threw up red flags.

I would say though his lack of production is a little misleading, as he's been in the backfield a lot and gotten his fair share of TFL's, QB Hits, and QB Pressures that don't always show up on the stat sheet. But he's a very raw prospect and a decent portion of his stock is built on what people project him to do in the future, sure.

And yes, Dumervil is a horrible, horrible comparison. If anything, Dumervil compares more to guys like Graham and Hughes who people question their size.

Mark Anderson had 12 sacks as a rookie. Hasn't had much success after that though.
