Gerhart to work out for Jets
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...s.html&team=95
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart is scheduled to visit the San Diego Chargers on Thursday, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the situation. As we previously reported, Gerhart will conduct a private workout for the New York Jets on Monday. The Jets are sending running backs coach Anthony Lynn to Stanford to check out Gerhart, a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Gerhart worked out for the Denver Broncos last week. Winning the Doak Walker award as the nation's top running back last season, Gerhart rushed for 1,871 yards and 27 touchdowns. Gerhart ran the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds at the NFL scouting combine and also registered a 38-inch vertical leap. The Heisman Trophy finalist also scored the highest Wonderlic score among the running backs with a 30 and bench pressed 225 pounds 22 times. "I’ve been compared with the other ‘white guys’ that have played my position," Gerhart said at the NFL scouting combine. "I get compared to (John) Riggins, (Mike) Alstott and stuff like that. But I’m color blind. I’m a running back. I compare my running styles to the likes of Eddie George or Corey Dillon, those type of guys.” Gerhart has been mentioned as a fullback candidate, but he envisions himself playing running back in the NFL. “I see myself as a running back at the next level," Gerhart said ."If (fullback) is asked of me I’ll do it. The team’s above all else. But I firmly believe that I have the skill set to play running back at the next level.” Didn't know much about this kid before, but damn, he's got some skills: I know it's only college and he's playing Oregon State, but he's speedy and runs with a full head of stream. Seems pretty damn tough too. Seems like he could be a nice complement to our running game and also back up T-Rich and learn from the best in the biz. |

I think were fine with RBs for now. We should be drafting a WR or two, a edge pass rusher, some secondary and a specialist just in case we lose Leon. Also, Gerhart played against a relatively weak Pac-10. USC wasn't USC and the only presence in the conference was Oregon. He won't be as good in the NFL

Interesting, just do not see us selecting a RB, with or without Leon on this team, in the 1st or 2nd round and there is almost no chance that Gerhart falls into Round 4.

don't see it happening. If he slid to #61 it's possible, but thats unlikely with SD picking high in the 2nd now.
If a RB is in the plans at all, we're Blount bound in the 4th. |

WTF is that supposed to mean?? I just watched the youtube clip and I must say I'm rather impressed. There's some that are bogus just because he's untouched. While others it took 2 or more tacklers to take him down. He hits the hole hard and shows good instincts after contact - keeps his legs going and gains those extra yards.

Faster then Shonn Greene....he's definately got enough speed. Seems to run with the same kind of reckless abandon as well. He'll be a good RB, I just don't see the fit on this team since we already have 3 backs. Perhaps consider it if we lose Leon though.

whoever posted slow and white is just an idiot.
thats what forty times are for and even then He seems to have faster football speed similar to another back we took that people thought was way to slow on his 40(and b1tched and moaned about)...Shonne Greene. Why wouldnt we want two Doalk Walker winning RBs in consecutive years?? Ohh bc we have a 28 yo who wont show up to training camp, has an ******* for an agent and has a potentially bum leg. But our other backup is a future HOfer so we're all good!! psych At this point I truly believe we are only marginally utilizing the strength of our run blocking O-line. Two backs like Greene and Gerhart will opposing defenses ready to lay down by halftime. Then we sprinkle in LT, Keller or Leon Last edited by MarkyMarkSanchez; 03-29-2010 at 04:56 AM. |

4.53 is slow thesedays? Jeez.
![]() 6. Toby Gerhart, Stanford. Also a starting outfielder on the Cardinal baseball team, the 2009 Pac-10 Player of the Year is a hard-charging, no-frills runner with experience in a pro-style system and plenty of speed (4.53). Draft Prediction: Patriots, No. 53 overall. Quote:
