The two star quarterbacks in Pennsylvania have both been in the news a lot lately, each for different reasons. In the past 24 hours, both of their worlds have changed drastically. Last night, police in Georgia decided to charge Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger with sexual assault following the incident at a Georgia night club with a 20-year-old college student. Word quickly reached NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. He had wanted to meet with Roethlisberger after hearing of the incident. Before we know the outcome of these charges against Ben, the commish has handed down his ruling. Because he has now been formally charged, Goodell has decided to suspend Roethlisberger for the 2010 season, a decision he made shortly after the charges were filed in Milledgeville.
This development left the Steelers in need of a quarterback. They did not feel Dennis Dixon is ready to take the starting job for good, and let's face it, we all know Charlie Batch is more fra-gee-lay than a leg lamp. The Steelers wasted no time signing a new quarterback. They were on the list of teams interested in Donovan McNabb. With the charges against Big Ben and the suspension from Fuhrer Goodell, they made their move this morning. The Steelers have signed McNabb to a one-year deal. In exchange, the Steelers sent Willie Parker to the Eagles. He was thought to be on his way out of Pittsburgh already thanks to his 2009 season. Terms of the deal are not yet known, but they have put their money on a man who has spent his entire career in the Keystone State, and will now take a chance on the other side of the state. Who knows what the future holds in store for Ben Roethlisberger. What we do know as of this morning is that he will not be playing football in the NFL in 2010. |
