Poor Kellen Clemens.

I think what killed him was being a good person. He deferred so politely to Mr. Pennington and bristled at the cut throat business of the NFL. Mark came in basically proclaiming I want to be the guy now, I want to start over the veterans, the guys that have been here and it was a big part of his success.

You get the feeling that Kellen was always waiting for his time, expecting the organization to get behind him when Chad moved on. Unfortunately he lost his moxie and he never showed enough for his coaches or teammates to believe in him, that he was a franchise QB. When he was starting those 11 games when Chad went down you never got the sense that he knew he was auditioning or that this might be his only chance, he always thought this was just the start and without a sense of urgency his time slipped away before it ever started.

He's a good guy and I wish him luck.
Exactly.

Clemens was too nice of a guy. I've criticized Chad for the longest, but I credit him for that cut-throat competitive drive he has to be a starter. Clemens never seemed to have that.

As you mentioned, it seemed that he never realized he was on an audition in 2007.

He has the physical tools, but I doubt he has the proper mental outlook to be an NFL starter.
I remember heading into 2008 all of the ACM'ers on here telling me Clemens was better than Pennington !!!

:D!
Not true. The argument was that we already know Pennington stinks so why not give Clemens a chance. Now we know they both stink.
Good guy, never caused a problem for the team won his one start last year and everyone hates his guts. Then we have an assshole and mouth piece like Taylor and every one and his dog has fallen in love with the guy because he might be coming here.
LOL

Maybe it's because Jason Taylor can still provide the passrush that we desperately need while Clemens hasn't even proven that he can be a dependable backup.

Is Jason Taylor a douche? Sure

Do I hate the guy? Absolutely

But can he post 7-10 sacks in this defense and help take us to the next level? You betcha

Or the people last summer saying he should start instead of Sanchez. Sanchez took us to the playoffs and AFC Championship game while Clemens was barely able to beat the 2nd or 3rd worst team in the league.

If Mangina was still running the show in Cleveland I think we could at least get a 3rd round pick for Clemens but even Mangini knows how much Clemens sucks.

7-10 sacks? Really? The lazy bum Taylor is just looking to ride out his career with a few bucks.
Fact: He had 1 1/2 sack in the last 10 games of last year. Real major production. Better than Gholston surely, but hardly a fine effort. And he's a year older and lazier. Pass on him and get in a good rookie OLB and a good rookie DE. Future not lazy veteran.
BTW, I don't care what he has said about the Jets or Jets fans. Some players have big mouths.

The Jets had the #1 pass defense last year. They need run help. Taylor can't play the run. He might get dirty or hit.

"Clemens wants to start -- somewhere"

How about he starts walking into an active volcano or the outdoor Kodiak bear exhibit at the Bronx Zoo? Clemens is delusional. IMO, he does not have the skills necessary to be a starter in the NFL, or even a great backup. If he did, with all the opportunities Clemens has had, it would have happened. Please, release this guy. Enough already.

The Jets aren't bringing in Taylor to start. He'd strictly be a situational passrusher. That's already been established.

Jason Taylor is one of the premier passrushers of this decade. Jason Taylor as a 3rd down passrusher, in a Rex Ryan blitz-happy defense doesn't sound too shabby to me.

Mark Bavaro used to talk sh*t about the Eagles and their fanbase as well when he played for the Giants. Then he goes to Philly and produces and all is forgotten.
