Do the JETS draft a kicker with the 2nd round pick!
The more the pieces come together for the next season and the stronger we look the more it becomes obvious that right now the biggest weakness we have on our team are on special teams specially the the kicker.
And i know our history of drafting a kicker in the early rounds has not been than stellar. So unless we think Folk or Clitsers are the answer for next season wouldn't it make sense to draft a strong kicker in the earlier rounds. Thoughts ? |

I do not think so. |

I have no problem at all using 6th and 7th rounders on punters or kickers. Anything before that is not good value in my mind.

Oakland hit big time with Janikowski and as much as I hate to say it Nugent was close to Janikowski comeing out of College. If memory serves me Ray Guy was also a big time hit early for Oakland. All that said I do not believe there is a kicker or punter comeing out that approches those two.

But this front office has been anything but conventional. They seem to be aware of the risks they are taking and have no problems in taking them. And inspite of the mother of all handcuffs Tanny has improved this team by leaps and bounds. But at the same time they have the risk/reward aspect of a deal perfectly setup in their favor. Most players like Cro/Holmes/Edwards have 1 more year on their contracts. LT/ possible Jason taylor have 2 yr contracts. This team is build up to win right now. And the talent level has been upgraded at pretty much every key position. But the only glaring area where we might have actually downgraded out talent is the kicker position. I know kickers are looked down upon but make no mistake about it they can make or break a great teams chances of the ultimate price. And that's why i see this as an option that needs to be considered. |
