Pre-Draft Team Needs-New York Jets

By Adam Caplan
Senior NFL Reporter
Posted Apr 15, 2010

The Jets were hampered in free agency by the "final four" rule, but that didn't stop them from making two big trades.

Players Added

LaDainian Tomlinson/RB - The veteran back should have 8-10 touches/game left in him for at least another season.

Santonio Holmes/WR - He'll give the team a badly needed down field passing threat--albeit for 12 games.

Rodrique Wright/DT - He was out of the league last season.

Lance Laury/LB - He figures to see most of his playing time on special teams.

Antonio Cromartie/CB - Cromartie is on the final year of his rookie deal and still has a lot to prove.

Brodney Pool/S - He'll compete for the free safety job.

Players Lost

Thomas Jones/RB - Second-year RB Shonn Greene will take over as the starter in his place.

Wallace Wright/WR - He'll see most of his playing time on special teams.

Jay Feely/K - He found a new home with the Arizona Cardinals.

Howard Green/DT - The journeyman defensive tackle's versatility should help him land a job by early August.

Marques Douglas/DE - He fits in with a team that runs a 3-4 defensive scheme.

Larry Izzo/LB - The special teams ace remains unsigned.

Ryan Fowler/LB - Fowler fits in as a backup MLB at this point in his career.

Marques Murrell/LB - He'll see most of his playing time on special teams.

Lito Sheppard/CB - He's finally starting to receive attention from other teams. Still, it's questionable if Sheppard will be able land a starting job this season.

Donald Strickland/CB - The journeyman defensive back found a new home with the San Diego Chargers

Kerry Rhodes/S - His departure to the Arizona Cardinals leaves a void at free safety.

Pre-Draft Team Needs

Outside Linebacker - Vernon Gholston hasn't done a thing in his two seasons and Bryan Thomas has become more of a run defender in recent years. It's no wonder why they are pursuing Jason Taylor.

Defensive End - Starter Shaun Ellis turns 33 in June and they don't have viable depth on either side.,

Other Issues to Address

Inside Linebacker Depth
Offensive Tackle Depth

Guard Depth

Center Depth
