Great story. That Dolls' show must be one of your fondest memories. Only in that era would a 13 year-old kid get into a rock venue. I had a friend, who at 13 or 14, was going to the Garden on his own, giving the guards a couple of bucks, and seeing any band you can name. We were in awe of the kid. Of course, his parents were divorced and his Mom was a degenerate alcoholic, but that's another matter.

As for Chapin: I saw him several times at Brooklyn College. Always put on a phenomenal--and really long--show. Just a guy that in about two minutes would have the entire crowd in the palm of his hand. One minute you're laughing, in tears the next. I was bummed when he died, too.
