Ortiz wants multi-year extension from Red Sox

David Ortiz told ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes on Monday that he is hoping to sign a multi-year contract extension with the Red Sox.
How times have changed. A few months ago some in the Boston media were calling for Ortiz to be released, and now an extension seems almost justifiable. Big Papi, 34, has a .945 OPS, 18 home runs and 57 RBI in 251 at-bats this season and won the Home Run Derby on Monday night. He is under contract for 2011 on a $12.5 million club option. "I'm going to tell you, I ain't going nowhere,'' Ortiz said. "I don't want one year. Why should I return for one year and go through the same [stuff] I'm going through now, just because it's my last year? No. I like to be left alone when I'm playing baseball." Jul. 13 - 8:42 am et

when he was struggling he said he guarantees that he will be in Boston next year.

At this point, I think you have to go year-to-year with him. The slow starts have to be concerning, if not alarming.

Sure, he wants a multi-year deal, but who is really going to give it to him?

1 year, 10 million beats anything else he's gonna get.

lol at the Sux if they actually cave in to his demands and give him anything more than 1 yr $8 mil for next season. He ain't getting anymore than that on the FA market and that's being optimistic for him.
