Woody Johnson tells Jets fans "not to worry" about contract negotiations

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Jets owner Woody Johnson does not seem to be overly concerned with the contract woes of several of the team's core players. The Jets have yet to work out new deals for Darrelle Revis, Nick Mangold, and David Harris but Johnson is telling the fan base not to worry.

"I think the fans know that we have to run the team ... and we have to run it within the rules," Johnson said Monday. "The fans know that we are trying to win. We are using our best judgment - (GM) Mike Tannenbaum, all of the coaches and me as well."

The Jets signed Pro Bowl tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson to a six-year, $60 million dollar extension but a close look at the contract shows the deal is not as good for Ferguson as it looks. The other three players are making no headway with the team and, in the case of Revis, the negotiations are getting ugly. Revis is considered by many the best cornerback in the NFL and he expects to be the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. Mangold is in the last year of his 5-year rookie contract and can become a free agent next year if a deal does not get done.

The Jets appear to be one of a number of teams who are not resigning potential free agents or restructuring contracts until a new CBA is in place. We're trying to put the best team on the field within the rules to win the Super Bowl," Johnson said. "I guess the fans are going to have to have a little confidence in our ability to make that happen."

im really trying to look at the situation from both sides... the management doesnt want to end up losing alot of money if there is a work stoppage. the players want the most money up front guaranteed if there is a work stoppage as well.. i guess i would lean my allegiance to the players on this one.. if i was ine the type of work these guys are in then i would want the most i can get up front... it would come down to how smart these players are fiscally...
