I love Stranglehold by Ted Nugent but more for the 'if your house gets in my way babyyy, you know I'll burn it down' part but the solo is pretty ill too.
And Red House by Hendrix, there are just so many good live versions of that where he gets extemporaneous, so to speak. Here's my favorite... from a band called The Mars Volta - the guitarists' name is Omar Rodriguez-Lopez... look him up. EPIC: 5:50 - 7:50 |

Pat Martino's solo on "Sunny" is one of my favorites.
Solo starts at about 1 minute. |

From both a composition and execution perspective, I will go to the mat with 3:10-4:40 against anything else out there.

Clapton's seminal solos, at 2:41 and 4:00, were executed at a time when the crybaby wah-wah was in its infancy. The second one has always made me take out my guitar and hack some more.
Wow; this is one of the tracks that got me started with "jazz improv"; I love the fact you can hear guitar and not a lot of "amp hair". RB picks like a motherfr; that's the sound I like to try for; lots of notes sped up with triplets; smooth.
I totally forgot how good this sounded; Made in Japan is too long. Downloading now.
Glad you dug it, WCO. Machine Head is one of my favorite albums. It has so much diversity of styles. When the guy wanted to play, Blackmore was a monster soloist, jumping seamlessly from one mode to another seemingly mid phrase. Very few players approached the attach and phrasing the same way. Listen to Blackmore "skip-hop" into this solo at 1:38 from the same record: Last edited by Borgoguy; 11-29-2010 at 03:35 PM. |

This one is great, especially Jerry and Steve going at it in the last few minutes.

Back in college, and as a fan of Humble Pie from years before, I had all of Frampton's solo records. This was before he became "Frampton". I have always loved the tone and non-conventional-rock style of this solo, beginning at approx. 2:40.
