Golden Ball 2011
I just received an mobile alert saying that the finalists are Xavi, Messi, and Iniesta. I have no idea how the voting works ( I was unaware that was a sort of Nominee Round). The Official vote is January 10th. Anyways who’s your pick?
Up till the WC, there’s no contest, it’s Messi (yes Dirtstar) having an oscene year with more goals scored than games played, but then had a quiet WC. I don’t think a GB winner has ever won it during a WC year without actually winning the title with his team. Forlan had an awesome competition, but without winning anything with your team it’s impossible. Iniesta and Xavi, won everything last year with Barcelona (except for the CL) and the WC with Spain. They represent Spanish domination over football. The 5-0 thrashing of Real a week ago was about as close to perfection as I’ve ever seen, and probably the best team I’ve ever seen play. If I had only one vote, I’d say Iniesta for his game winning goal in the WC final. The odd man out is Sneijder, who had a brilliant run with Inter last year and an excellent WC to boot. He could end up winning it, who knows. |

Since you asked who would win I voted for Messi who I think will win, and if my vote actually meant something I'd still vote for Messi but with the following Caveat;
I agree with all you said about Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. Iniesta and Xavi - together - are quite possibly the best duo ever to play the game. When they ar both on the pitch Barça and Spain are different teams. However when one doesn't play the others game is also affected. I mean it's a weird comparison for a 1 player award I'd go with messi but if we were picking a team my first two picks would be Xavi and Iniesta. |

Hey Turk, what's up?
Have you checked French standings lately? PSG is kicking some ass this year We're playing solid ball...really. We're in the hunt in all competitions, just beat Sevilla 4-2 in Europaleague (yeah that sh*tty competition I didn't care about ).

Good for you, since we are having the worst season ever this year (only slight exagaration; 105 year old club and this is statistically the 2nd worst season in history) I have not checked any tables including the Turkish one since about the second week of September. God I hate this season... |

I wouldn't want to a player or coach right now. Do they live in a military compound for safety?I'm totally beat. Pregnant wife, sick kid, moved in new place, had to finish some renovation...if I have to take apart or set up another Ikea dresser, bed..etc I'll go Hampur on everyone near me.

![]() Frank Rijkaard was fired a month ago and Hagi has replaced him. Because he is a Galatasaray legend noone is questioning him right now but the players are fair game. There was a funny protest this past weekend but I gotta give some backgrond info first: In Turkish slang the word for Cucumber ( hıyar ) means an idiot, and as you may know we have this dish we make with cucumbers and yogurt that we call "Cacık". Anyway last friday a bunch of supporters go to our training facilities with a pick up dump a heap of cucumbers at the enterance and tie the following banner to the gate: "These hıyars at least we can make cacık with, but you, you are not worth ****" Good times...good times... |

Well, not that it matters since this place is a desert, Messi won it in a a surprising turn of events.
The Spanish press is fuming. In the past there were 2 Titles: 1 – Golden Ball elected by journalists 2 - FIFA player of the year by National coaches and captains This year, they’ve merged the 2 together. If the original voting was kept (ie journalists only)Sneijder would have won the Golden Ball |

More importantly Hamit Altıntop of Bayern Munich and Turkey won the award for goal of the year for his strike against Kazakhstan. Messi who?

![]() Yeah, obviously am still watching as many Liverpool games as I can, but have been quiet advertising it here because have been embarrassed the level we have fallen to. Was cautious on the new owners, but to be honest have been happy with what they've done so far. Have also been silent because of the American aspect of the past and current ownership, as you can imagine. The U S of A can't do a thing wrong if you troll the political forum, so not a good subject to bring up on these threads I feel. Sometimes better to keep one's mouth shut. Thanks for the thumbs up on my drafting. |
