Speaking of Music, Picking Up One of These This Weekend - Page 3

To me THIS is the key to playing. When it's in the case, it's out of sight, out of mind. When it's sitting there on a stand, ready to play, I tend to pick it up more frequently if nothing else than to plunk away and learn a new song I heard.

I own several acoustics but only the one Strat as far as electrics go partly due to the nature of the beast; amp, cables, sheer volume of playing, electronics, etc. I keep the nicer acoustics tucked away in their cases and leave out a POS Applause thin roundback acoustic/electric I bought off a buddy to beat the sh*t out of and take on camping trips and such. Turns out that guitar ends up being the one I play most seeing as how it's always out cuz I don't GAF about busting it up.

I've always been a big Martin fan, they are simply effortless to play, never really liked Taylors...until a buddy of mine lost interest in playing, had a baby and GAVE me his. :D

If you find one you like, buy it. Groove Tubes doesn't make them any more. They're not making anything right now outside of tubes, but even the tubes are few and far between.

I settled on a 15 watt vox ac15 clone with lots of chime. not exactly clean, it has that vox fuzz, but i chose pups and strings to get the sound I wanted. took some doing.

Not sure why I have never been attracted to play electric guitars. griwing uo as a stand up bass player , electric bass and then acoustic guitar. I would pick up the Les Paul etc...but it wasn't for me. That said....

Any of you guys play these electrics with all the reverb etc.... and then move to a beautiful Taylor or Martin and realize your chops are NOT what you thought when not covered by all the electronics?

First things first: I'm a hacker guitar player. That said, I almost always learn rhythm and leads on my acoustic first, bends and all. By the time I get to my electric, playing seems a ton easier.

^ This. You've gotta clean things up in your playing before you take it to the electric or else it'll sound like sonic mush. Plus, if you strengthen your fingers using thicker gauge strings on an acoustic and then switch to your electric, playing is a breeze.

classical guitar is great too. really stretch the fingers and learn to play with the fingertips

My college roommates son, who I would like to think that I influenced heavily into BASS, now is a freshman at the University of Maryland playing Bass in their orchestra. I picked up his 5 string bass and I couldn't play $hit.

I am a 4 string kind a guy!
