Johnny Winter in Stanhope, NJ on Thursday

Just saw that Johnny Winter playing at the Stanhope House on Thursday ($40). Didn't even know he still plays. Stanhope House is a small venue that holds less than a hundred. It's bout 10 minutes from home. Might just drop in to see what an old, albino, ex-Blues/rocker sounds like now. He's got to be in his 70's or thereabouts. Listened to a lot of his riffs in the 70's.

maybe not:
@Watersnake7 In a sense it is our business. When you pay for a Johnny Winter show, you expect Johnny Winter, not a broken down old addict who cannot play any more. The last I saw of Johnny (live), I barely recognized the man who was helped onstage. I thought he was goofing on us when he started playing but quickly realized that he was so incapacitated he couldn't play. So yes - it is our business when we pay our hard-earned money and travel to see a show. Stay home and get better - or retire...
@Dogheadj Johnny was washing down the Xanax with vodka and methadone. Can you see why he's in the condition he's in? Last I read a few weeks ago, Johnny is supposedly off everything. No more methadone or booze. I believe the damage has been done, though.

I catch Johnny every time he comes back up to Montreal, in case it might be the last. If you haven’t seen him for some time, your first impression of him will lead you to think that he’s on last days on this earth. But once he plays his first note, you’ll soon realize that this guy’s still got it! Be ready to be amazed!I’n my opinion, he’s the best livingblues guitarist still playing. So enjoy!

Saw JW at My Father's Place in 1980; he was off-the-hook drunk and stopped playing rock tunes, pulled up a stool ( :squint: ) and started crying about "wanting to play the blues; all you rock and roll people go take a piss or something..." The next week the WLIR jock says "Johnny Winter was too drunk to play in New Haven (Toad's?), and the paid-in-full crowd rioted and wrecked the place." I wonder if that quote comes from someone that experienced this.

1. That quote was from a week ago. It refers to seeing JW recently, I assume.

2. My Father's Place!!!!!!!!!
Roslyn. OMG... the dozens of times I went there!!!! In fact, I was going to post in the other thread about unusual places where people had sex..... but I didn't think this was odd enough... on the hood of my Ford Torino under the Northern Blvd bridge over the parking area for My Father's Place.... whilst everyone was already inside the place...
