New York Rangers(8) vs. Washington Capitals(1): Easten Conference Quarterfinals
Making a thread for this since the season thread took up so much bandwith (not srs)
Game 1: Wednesday April 13 7:30 PM @ Verizon Center (Versus/MSG) Game 2: Friday April 15 7:30 PM @ Verizon Center (TBA) Game 3: Sunday April 17 3:00 PM @ Madison Square Garden (TBA) Game 4: Wednesday April 20 7:00 PM @ Madison Square Garden (TBA) Game 5*: Saturday April 23 3:00 PM @ Verizon Center (TBA) Game 6*: Monday April 25 TBD @ Madison Square Garden (TBA) Game 7*: Wednesday April 25 TBD @ Verizon Center (TBA) Totally Baseless, Biased Prediction: Rangers in 7. Fun Fact: Washington has gone to the 7th game in each of their last 5 playoff series. They are 1 and 4 in those game 7s. The only victory? The Rangers in 2009. Let's go Rangers!!!
I met John Gianone yesterday. He's a really nice guy. He made some comments about Avery and Tortorella's relationship. Apparently they haven't spoken in months and Torts doesnt trust Avery on the ice and Avery feels disrespected by that, but Avery loves NY. Gianone said that there is no way Avery comes back next year. He predicted that the Rangers will pick up Brad Richards. |

Well i'm not sure if its the chicken or the egg, but Avery has been invisible this season.
Its a real shame- there was a time (maybe two seasons ago, before torts) when it looked like avery was going to become a high impact player for the rangers- so much so that it wasn't out of the realm of possibility that he'd crack the second line- of course, that was a while back. |

Caps have changed their lines a lot this year....heres what they are practicing with currently:
Ovechkin - Backstrom - Knuble Sturm - Arnott - Semin Laich - Johansson - Chimera Hendricks - Gordon - Bradley |

I think we should hold on to him and give him Brad Richards as a center. With Dubinsky centering him, he hasnt gotten a lot of room to get his shots off properly. I think with a top line center, he would be motivated to go. Its sad that making 8 million and playing for a good fan base isnt enough incentive. Nice story, Banks. Keep in mind that Giannone has a grudge against Avery. When Sean came back as a Star, he was blaming media and other stuff for Sather not matching the contract the Stars gave him. He blew Giannone off for an interview. Avery has still played himself off this team for next season. As for Brad Richards, he looks like he'll end up here. Exactly what we need, we have the cap room, he likes big markets and his old coach is here. Last edited by Bay Ridge Jet; 04-11-2011 at 12:44 PM. |

Yeah, and the Rangers best player in the series that year? Callahan. They don't don't score enough as it is and without their best player it's gonna be pretty tough. Lundqvist might steal a couple but just like '09, can't win all 4 by himself. |

Sean Avery is one of the main reasons I fell back in love with the rangers after the lock out, Love the guy, but he just doesn't have it anymore, he has no shot and he doesn't agitate as well anymore, he is still a pretty good passer and he does leave it out on the ice, but the emergence of prust has all but sealed his fate

I just don't see the Rangers having enough to pull this off, despite playing great against the Caps during the regular season. Losing Callahan is a huge obstacle to overcome. Lundqvist steals a couple, but I predict Caps in 6.
