Taxes

No wonder they want to increase taxes on the rich.

More people on the dole.

No wonder everyone else gets taxed. But blame the rich!

according to gallup poll last week, 72% of Americans support raising the taxes on those making more than 250k.

this is the only deficit reducing step that has more than 50% support from the public.

we can paint this as a left/right thing but these guys are driven by polls. and the polls are saying soak the rich.

PK, one of the single most bitter and jealous class-warriors we have on this forum. You really do hate those who have more than you, eh?

Wait.

That was bitter and jealous? And no, of course I don't hate anyone that has more than me...where would you even get that idea, Fish?

According to a poll 99.9% of Americans want someone else to pay higher taxes so they don't have to.

Like Bit, there is a theme, and undercurrent, to the things you comment on and how. Same for me, tbh. For you, disdain for Religion is one. Over time that theme becomes more and more evident.

One thing that almost invariably gets you posting, is the issue of wealth in the hands of the top X% of Americans. Again, invariably, you post a very similar position/sarcasm as to the issue at hand.

Love you PK, but you come across as an angry middle-class working stiff who really doesn't like "the rich" in a pretty traditional (although sarcasticly entertainly) variation of standard issue class-warfare.

where is it written that everyone has to love everyone else?

in this forum where more than half are very conservative, PK seems like a class warrior... and Im a damn commie.

in the real world, it's the "let's cut taxes all the time, for the rich especially" crowd that is the minority. Most people don't think that lower tax rates for the rich leads to prosperity.

Oooo k.

And rich people don't care much for lower class people. What's the difference? I like the whole "class warfare" stuff you keep bringing up. Yup. A group of people with little or no power are waging "warfare" against a group with limitless power/money.

lolz

you kill me. :P

Yup. And setting the tax rates back to what they were during the economic prosperous 90's are going to devastate the economy. They passed the tax cuts in the early 2000's to help the economy...and it did nothing. So now that people are throwing the idea around of letting them expire, people are acting like that will someone kill everything. It's laughable. We tried it. It didn't work.

So, do a flat tax. But you never hear of any "conservatives" offering up the idea...because, truth be told, the current tax system is a product of lobbyists hired by corporations from which they benefit GREATLY from. EXTREMELY GREATLY (lolz). The last thing they want is a flat tax. But they've somehow convinced people like you that there is this army of poor people standing on the throats of the politicians to keep the system the way it is so that they can get free stuff from the government.

That's pretty laughable too.

Nowhere. While I generally like almost everyone in the forum, there are certainly folks int he greater world I despise.
in this forum where more than half are very conservative, PK seems like a class warrior... and Im a damn commie.
I agree with the "more than half". It's funny remembering teh days where you used to complain this was "right wing dominated" forum. /chuckle.

I agree, to a point. As Winston (I think) posted elsewhere, "99.9% of voters support taxing someone else so they don't have to pay".

It's ok Comrade. You have almost 50% now paying no net income tax, thats pretty good. What (in your biew) is teh ideal % not paying? 60% maybe? 75%. Surely that would help the party who passed it stay in power, amirite? Everyone loves a free ride when it's them getting it free.

how does "raise taxes on the rich" become "more people should be tax excempt"

where did I say more people shouldn't pay taxes

you can frame this as a class warfare social issue I see it as an accounting issue. the tax burden on everyone is lower than it has been for 60 years and we need to cut deficits. We aren't gonna cut 1.5 T in spending it's just not politically feasible. Taxes must go up, on everyone. The rich especially will take more of the burden but everyone needs to pay more. The poor too.

If you were honest about that, you'd be more than happy to cut spending too.

I look forward to your reply to my thread on that topic.

Just for the record, it should be reminded that it's the Left who uses the "Granny and Poor people will die if we cut spending" argument, not me.;)

I'm all for rasing taxes. On the 45%+ who currently pay no net incomes taxes. Say, raise them to 10%? Fair enough, right, if 45% of our taxpayers now pay 10% net, instead of 0% net?

10%? That includes everything, right? SS, Federal Income and Medicare? 10% of my weekly wages?

That would work beautifully. That would actually reduce what I've elected to have taken out weekly. Of course, they give it back to me in a refund....which really surprised me the first time it happened, but I wasn't gonna look a gift horse in the mouth and got my kick a** TV for watching HD Jets games with it.

But I would definitely go for having more in every paycheck and no refund.

Im happy to cut spending. I've said it about a dozen different ways. You choose to ignore it and throw out the socialist card. But I have in many threads said spending must be cut AND taxes must be raised.

we need to remember what's politically realistic and what isn't. It's not realistic to think the deficit will be filled by pure spending cuts. Congress just can't get that done.

As for raising taxes on the mythical "45%" its all the tax credits and loopholes that are allowing these people not to pay. Take away those credits and loopholes that's an effective tax increase and I support that as well.

There is no such thing as pain-free deficit reduction. To get this thing under control all will feel the pain, rich and poor.
