a bridge too far
"The bridge behind us happens to connect the state that is home to the speaker of the House, with the home state of the Republican leader in the Senate, Mr. Boehner and Mr. McConnell, those are the two most powerful Republicans in government. They can either kill this jobs bill, or they can help pass this jobs bill ...
"There is no reason for Republicans in Congress to stand in the way of more construction projects. There is no reason to stand in the way of more jobs. Mr. Boehner, Mr. McConnell, help us rebuild this bridge. Help us rebuild America. Help us put construction workers back to work. Pass this bill!" Obama gave more money to Solyndra for their "green jobs" scam than he gave to 35 states to rebuild/repair their roads, highways and bridges in the last "stimulus." Half a billion dollars could have rebuilt that Ohio/Kentucky bridge in friggin gold.
Still, cool photo op bro. |

LOL, what a lame P.R. move. This is what the Great Orator has been reduced to? Trumpeting his half assed jobs package under a bridge?
I guess it worked on some people though, and one of those people were inspired enough to create a thread about it. |

ah yes, BO's jump on the campaign trail...was it ever determined if that bridge in fact was to be included in the bill?

It's not a jobs bill. It's a tax bill. Same as it's not immigration, it's illegal immigration.
As Shakin says, that 500 mil wasted on Solyndra you described as a meaningless nothing unworthy of your consideration or concern, could have fixed this bridge and then some. Guess this bridge is a meaningless nothing to a big picture thinker like you. |

this is America people should have the right to drown in a river if they want to. Or build their own bridge with their own money.

This simpleton concept that infrastructure funding will magically fix the massive unemployment problem in this country is staggeringly inaccurate. I read the other day that this recession will most likely affect our (yours and mine, bitonti) entire generation. How will a couple thousand temp construction jobs help that? It won't. It's a band aid that Obama is trying to fool the masses with. And clearly, it's working. |

I want infrastructure building to fix the infrastructure problem. The unemployment effects are a temporary side benefit. The bridge will last for another 100 years. |

Obama is calling this a jobs bill, not an infrastructure bill. He is on a cross country tour touting the job creating effects of the bill. It's called the American Jobs Act, for chrissakes. In reality, it's nothing but a campaign ploy. Those construction workers will be at work just long enough to last through election season. |

Who the F builds infrastructure? Wave a magic wand and a bridge is built? Construction jobs should never end? We need better bridges and roads because they have been ignored long enough. You want to tell the people of Minnesota their bridges wont fail? |

Again, the point is missed entirely. Do our roads and bridges need work? Yes, obviously. Will this end the unemployment crisis, as Obama is advertising? No. This bill is a retread of the past stimulus, nothing more. |

Good paying construction jobs aren't around right now, you think those jobs should only be permanent? Money going to our citizens to improve our infrastructure is a bad thing? According to all the knowing here nothing will save Obama. |
