An Upgrade Nobody is Talking About
Running Back.
We need a bruiser a guy that can beat you down and change pace with McKnight who I feel should be our number 2 next season. I say Peyton Hillis. The guy wears down because he's virtually been the entire offense in CLE...and I know he's been a mess this year, but I think his style is perfect change of pace with McKnight and we need a guy like that. Shonn Greene simply is not a feature back. |

Hillis wants long money. Greene is the same back with worse hands.

Remember what happened to Christian Okoye when Steve Atwater stoned him? He was no longer the intimidator. |

Hillis and Greene are totally different backs. Hillis is a true bruiser. Greene will fight for an extra yard or 2 but will not effectively bullrush a defense....instead he'll try to make cuts which he isn't entirely good at. Hillis's market value is also declining with him missing time....he isnt going to get the long money he wants. |

For a team that is supposed to be 'ground and pound' oriented, it's actually shocking how overlooked the RB position has been.

and Hillis is the definition of ground and pound... McKnight slashing as a change of pace could be absolutely lethal. |

greene would be better if the defense wasn't playing 8-9-10 men in the box, cause they are not afraid of the long ball, aswell as sanchez's accuracy or ability to audible

All defenses that we have faced since Mark Sanchez have arrived have done the same thing. They sell out to stop the running game. They don't respect the Jets passing game. If they do pass, they know eventually Sanchez will throw a pick 6. It worked like a charm last night. |

Woud rather spend $$$ improving the following:
Safety ILB OLB RT Both Guard positions Backup QB Hillis is injury prone because he initiates alot of contact as a runner. Now we're supposed to give him big money so he can get stuffed at the line with Schitty's predictable playcalls and mediocre blocking? F*ck that. |

Please. It is more about the o-line than the RBs. This team has far more important holes to fill than RB. That should be a very low priority this offseason, after OLB (we need two new starters), Safety, RT, WR. I would include QB but there is just no way we're giving up on Sanchez just yet. But his garbage play hurts the running game, too.

+1. You could have Barry Sanders back there and wouldn't make a lick of difference with this s*tty O line. Why even discuss what running back we should target, doesn't matter, it all starts up front. |

I've got a different take on what no one is talking about: the Jets with Sanchez should look to develop as a slot/ TE kind of passing team. Sanchez's strength is mobility and hitting intermediate routes. He NEEDS his own Jason Witten/ Gronkowski type safety-valve; he also needs his own Wes Welker slot player that can work in space on those intermediate routes. Add in a running back that can catch the ball and you'd have the core of an offense that Sanchez would feel comfortable in.
Another huge need is Right Tackle. Hunter has to go. Usually people talks about how important a LT is for a QB, but the right side has been so bad in pass protection that Sanchez rarely throws to that side; he also rarely moves towards that side - which would be his natural roll-out side as a righty QB. What I saw last night was a lot of collapse on that right side from both Hunter and Mulligan. Sanchez gets quickly walled in by his "pocket" and is often reduced to playing on one side of the field. For next year, I say our first two picks are OLB and OT. Then bring in a experienced big-bodied TE as a FA. Another FA safety and some good possession/slot WRs in the middle rounds. I'd be open to trading Keller. He's just not a good fit for this QB. He's got great hands but is undersized and can't play well in the packages that work as either pass or run and therefore feed naturally into the play-action. |
