I wanted to show Steely Dan is not even on the radar.
Proves nothing. Most people don't know who John Prine is. And even fewer Townes Van Zandt is. Doesn't make them lesser songwriters.

Townes Van Zandt is one of those legends that if you follow music closely, you recognize his genius.

Check mout Lyle and many songwriters paying tribute to Townes.

3 Led Zeppelin 83,620,000
4 Elvis Presley 77,280,000
5 Eagles 65,000,000
6 Billy Joel. 63,250,000
7 Barbra Streisand 62,750,000
8 Elton John 61,620,000
9 Aerosmith 54,370,000
10 Pink Floyd 52,600,000
I don't think this was a good way of making whatever your point was, but that Led Zeppelin number is astounding given the relatively compact size of their catalogue and the generally hard edge of their music (for the time period).

I heard if you time the start of the Wizard of Oz with a Steely Dan album, Glenda sends Dorothy and Toto home in the first scene, just to end things quicker.

You know, truth is, to each their own when it comes to subjective stuff like music, writing and the arts. Everyone sees and hears things differently, and that's ok.

Enlightnement comes when you realize you don't need a single other person on earth to like what you do for it to still be great.

Although 100 million in record sales don't hurt tho.;)

We could move this thread to the politics forum and talk about man's fundamental and unalienable right to listen to crappy music like steely Dan.
