If You Were Thinking About What to Buy For Christmas/Holidays...

Robot Boxing Machines ($17,000) Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots has nothing on these. Arriving in a package weighing 850 lbs. (!), these Robot Boxing Machines ($17,000) take recreational robot warfare to a new level. You and buddy each climb inside one of the beasts, and use a thumb-triggered button and two independent joysticks to activate the pneumatic-powered, tire-tread-fisted arms, while a Honda gas engine powers the hidden wheels, letting you float like a tank at up to 3 mph for up to five hours of fighting. Just the thing to liven up your holiday gatherings. Source: Hammacher Schlemmer & Co. Gerber Apocalypse Kit ($350) The name pretty much says it all. The Gerber Apocalypse Kit ($350) includes everything you need to keep yourself alive should a zombie outbreak occur — and that means machetes, axes, knives, and more knives. Pretty much anything with a blade on it, all packed into a durable canvas case. Be safe. Be prepared. The Mirrorcube ($377,000) is a nearly-invisible treehouse that truly blends in with nature. Built with exterior walls made from reflective "spyglass," the pre-fab structure reflects its surroundings to become almost undetectable. (An infrared film, invisible to humans but visible to birds is placed within the glass to stop kamikazes.) Designed by Scandinavian architects Bolle Tham & Martin Videgård, it's got a wood and aluminum body, and comes complete with restroom, queen-size bed, and Goonies-esque rope bridge. So for under $400k you can assemble the "End of Days" package, in which you stock your MirrorCube with Apocalypse Kits, and keep your fighting robots outside for defense/quick escape. Not bad.

For that kind of cash, you can get a decent 2-bedroom apartment in a Midwestern underground city. |
