Getting from Metlife to NYC

Hello all, Florida resident staying at Holiday Inn Express Meadowlands for the week. I would like to go to the Jets game tomorrow and had a question. The hotel operator said that the stadium is only a 20 minute walk, which is probably how I will get there.

More importantly, how do I got to NYC (preferably port authority or Penn Station? from the stadium?

Are there any shuttles/buses? Didn't really want to pay to take a taxi.

Thanks for any advice!

Not sure about the walk to the stadium but right outside the stadium there are trains that leave every 15 minute or so after the game that goe to secaucus and then you can connect onto a train to penn station from there.

You can take the NJ Transit Train from the Meadowlands. Transfer at Secaucus Junction and it will take you to Penn Station. Round trip fare is about 10 bucks.

Very easy. In addition to the train, Port Authority has a bus service that runs to and from the stadium. You'll probably need to buy a ticket in advance, though.

Take the train, but get a ticket in advance.

Walking: Out of the question. You need to see if the hotel can get you on a shuttle bus to the stadium. There is no walking path to MetLife from any hotel. You take your life in your own hands trying to dart through 60 mph traffic on curvy highways and access roads. Don't do it.

NYC: There's a train at the Verizon gate that'll take you to Secaucus, transfer there to Penn Station. Just follow the crowds, easy to do. You can buy your ticket on the train.

I would think if you were staying at a Holiday Inn Express, you would already know the answer to this question.:yes:

Wrong. I've taken that walk down Paterson Plank to the stadium many times. It's easy and completely safe.

Describe the route in detail including how you don't have to cross any roads where cars are driving as there are pedestrian walkways.

bus is extremely easy, even if you are an out-of-towner. You do not need to purchase a ticket in adance. Its only $5.

Walking to the stadium from Holiday Inn Express is no problem. If you don't want to wait for the train there is a cab stand near the walkway bridge by lot D.

Get dropped off at the Fairfield Inn, which is across from Charlie Brown's Steakhouse and also happens to be on the same side of the highway as the entrance to the stadium. There also happens to be a traffic light and crosswalks right there on the corner, where Paterson Plank meets Murray Hill Parkway. Walk on the grass up above the curb (which is now just dirt, from so many people walking on it en route to the stadium) and arrive safely at the stadium. I've done this for approximately 10-15 games since 2008 and, amazingly, am still alive and able to post on JI.
