I just thought of an interesting comparison.

I've just had a thought of an interesting comaprison to the career of Mark Sanchez.

David Carr.

I believe that David Carr was the first pick of a brand new franchise. They never had an offensive line and he took a beating. That might be the only similarities between the two, the beating Sanchez took this year and the beatings Carr took with Houston. Other than that there isn't much. Carr never had anywhere near the success that Sanchez has had. He may have had a down year but Sanchez has still won 4 road playoff games, has led several 4th quarter comebacks as a starter. He just needs to get a little tougher and he will be fine

I don't really see any similarities at all between the two of them.

Carr was a godawful QB on some bad Houston teams who never had the pocket presence and quick release to get the ball out that the NFL demands. As a result he was sacked 76 times his rookie year, 49 times another year, and 68 in yet another year.

Sanchez isn't a good QB by any real measure, but he's not too far below average. Carr was atrocious by any measure.

You are referring to the fact that Carr was regarded as a very talented QB but the Texans never protected him. Carr was pounded his first few years and it ruined his development and psyche. Carr became gun-shy and shell-shocked and has never recovered.

I have made the statement before that Sanchez will eventually suffer from the "David Carr effect" from the lack of his protection. However, I dont think it has gotten to that point after just one year. He is not to that point yet. But if the Jets dont fix this O-Line it might happen.

Fans will never understand the trauma these QBs receive in these games. Some of these hits are like being in a car accident. It has nothing to do with toughness, it is a natural survival instinct to protect yourself and not worry about delivering the ball.

What I meant was that he was a high draft pick, got rattled by sacks and suffered from some poor o-line play.

Haha, there goes that argument.

Playoff wins mean a lot and Mark has quite a few compared to Mr. Carr.

Not even close as far as how they entered the league.

Carr came to a team with zero talent, no offensive line at all and a crap front office that did not provide him with an oline.

Sanchez came into the league for his 1st two years with a team with top 5 Oline, top 5 running game and top 5 defense.

They may end up looking similar but Sanchez had all the advantages Carr did not have.

Fair comparison in that Sanchez is getting smacked around much like Carr was

in his Houston days. HOWEVER - Sanchez has nowhere near the talent level

possessed by Carr when he was drafted. Carr was not only athletically gifted,

he also possessed a howitzer - something Sanchez never had. As mentioned

earlier in the thread, we can only hope Sanchez isn't "damaged goods" because

of the beating he took this year.

'11 Jets = '11 Red Sox

Management unaware of poisonous locker room element....leading to late season collapse. Sox let down by pitching...Jets let down by QB play

Everyone agrees that Eli was horrendous his first 4 years until he went on that run at the end of the year and continued it after that. There is a reason everyone was calling for his head and wanting him out. You know why? Because he was awful! Saying Sanchez plays like Eli did early in his career and showing their stats compare is not a compliment. It just reafirms he is playing terrible and deserves all the criticism he is getting.

You want to say oh since Eli was one of the extremely rare QB's that made a huge jump after his 4th year so now Sanchez will make that jump? NO! you cant say that. So now every QB who struggles his first three years is on pace to be the next Eli? Do you know how stupid that sounds? :steamin:

Well its the exact opposite comparison.

David Carr had every skill Mark Sanchez did not. But he got put in the worst situation in the world and it killed him.

Mark Sanchez dreams of being as good as Carr could have been, but was put in the best situation of any QB in the last decade with the leagues best Oline, Best Running game, and Best defense in his rookie year.

In the end they both will end up good backup QB''s
