Fisher and the Rams like Schleppenheimer
Rams Offense - TM - Rams
According to "multiple league sources," Brian Schottenheimer is a candidate for the Rams' offensive coordinator job.
Schottenheimer is interviewing for the same position at the University of Alabama Saturday, but is apparently near the top of Jeff Fisher's wish list. With Fisher favoring a smash-mouth brand of offense, it's an odd match after Schottenheimer was often criticized for calling too many pass plays with the Jets. It would also be mixed news for Sam Bradford after Mark Sanchez showed little development in three seasons under Schottenheimer. Of course, it's quite possible there was simply nothing Schottenheimer could do to make Sanchez better.
Hmmm, Bradford and Schleppy. I guess we'll know if it was mark or not.

Why, he only had issues with Mark?

Did you become a Jet fan in '09?

I hope it happens. It will be interesting to see how the 2012 season would unfold for both the Rams and the Jets offenses.

Brian Schottenheimer is interviewing today with Nick Saban about the offensive coordinator job at Alabama. But it looks like Schottenheimer will have another job opportunity — in St. Louis.

Multiple league sources told the Post-Dispatch on Saturday that Jeff Fisher is interested in hiring Schottenheimer as his offensive coordinator with the Rams.

Fisher informed the Rams on Friday he wanted to coach in St. Louis; contract details between Fisher and the Rams still must be finalized, but that's expected to happen no later than Sunday evening.

In the meantime, Fisher has been given the green light by the Rams to "officially" talk to potential members of his coaching staff. Fisher has been informally working on his staff over the past week or so as he contemplated whether to coach for St. Louis or Miami.

Schottenheimer, 38, and the New York Jets had a mutual parting of the ways earlier in the week after a season in which the Jets finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs, and their offense finished 25th in the league.

Schottenheimer, the son of longtime NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer, also interviewed for the Jacksonville head-coaching job which went to Mike Mularkey. Marty Schottenheimer is a candidate for the head-coaching job in Tampa Bay, but indications are that Brian wants to cast his own lot in the NFL rather than joining his father if Marty gets the Bucs' job.

For Brian Schootenheimer, the obvious attraction to working with the Rams rather than the college ranks with Alabama is the chance to work with Sam Bradford at quarterback. Brian's first NFL coaching job was as an offensive assistant in St. Louis in 1997 on Dick Vermeil's first Rams staff.

New York Jets QBs under Brian Schottenheimer (as Offensive Coordinator):

2006: Chad Pennington (16 games) 313/485 64.5% 3,352 yds 17TD/16INT 82.6 Rating
2007: Chad Pennington (8 games) 179/260 68.8% 1,765 yds 10TD/9INT 86.1 Rating
2007: Kellen Clemens (8 games) 130/250 52.0% 1,529 yds 5TD/10INT 60.9 Rating
2008: Brett Favre (16 games) 343/522 65.7% 3,472 yds 22TD/22INT 81.0 Rating
2009: Mark Sanchez (15 games) 196/364 53.8% 2,444 yds 12TD/20INT 63.0 Rating
2010: Mark Sanchez (16 games) 278/507 54.8% 3,291 yds 17TD/13INT 75.3 Rating
2011: Mark Sanchez (16 games) 308/543 56.7% 3,474 yds 26TD/18INT 78.2 Rating

Now, is it the coordinator, or the QB? Continuing:

Playoffs (under Schotty):

Chad Pennington: 23/40 57.5% 300 yds 1TD/1INT 79.2 Rating

Mark Sanchez: (6 games) 95/157 60.5% 1,155 yds 9TD/3INT 94.3 Rating

Brett Favre: N/A

I don't know what to expect from Schotty in St. Louis, but when I look at the stats above, it tells me in Schotty's offense Sanchez is less accurate than the other 2 QBs, but is just as INT prone in the respective offense.

Was it the QBs, or the playerS?

Oh God poor Sam Bradford, what did he do to deserve this? I bet he is praying real hard right now.

It would be unimaginably hillarious if Bradford made that jump next year with Schotty while Sanchez stays flat in a conservative ground and pund offense. The Schotty bashing Sanchez excusing posters wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

Equally hilarious, predictable (and welcomed) would be the disappearing act you would perform should the inverse occur.

Many other theoretical, yet totally unlikely scenarios, would be equally hilarious.

To add to that, Pennington had 91 Rating the year before Schotty(2 years before actually, he was hurt the year before Schotty was hired) and a 97 rating his first year in Miami.

Favre had a 95 rating the year prior to joining the Jets, and a 107 the year after he left.

I'd say it definitely has something to do with the OC. Maybe not everything, but he certainly is part of the problem. I'm really surprised he's getting this much interest. I think if his last name was different, he probably wouldn't be.

Wouldnt the Jets save some future contract money if Schotty was hired by another team? Good luck in St. Louis Brian.

Why don't you just admit you're a closet Patriots fan, Magnus?

This constant desire to see Sanchez fail is really grating on my and everyone else's nerves. :steamin:

This would also reunite Schottenheimer with Kellen Clemens if St. Louis decides to keep him.
