James Farrior Released

Hmmm...I'd give him a 1 year deal TBH. Especially if we get rid of Bart without an immediate viable option. What could a guy like him command do you think?
Steelers released ILB James Farrior.

The latest veteran to go in the Steelers' salary cap purge, Farrior had been Dick LeBeau's defensive leader and signal-caller for the past decade. The 37-year-old was due $2.825 million after an up-and-down season while battling injuries. The Steelers lose valued team leaders in Farrior, Hines Ward, and Aaron Smith, but they're also churning over a roster that was simply too long in the tooth. Beat writer Gerry Dulac tweeted Thursday night to "start fitting a Steelers uniform for Dont'a Hightower" if Farrior is axed.
We need to get younger and faster on defense. Not older.

Farrior like Ray Lewis seem to never age. This guy can still bring it. Great veteran leader and prescence. Could make sense.........yes he is old.

Se we let him go, gives his best years to the Steelers, then we pick him up again for the dying days of his career.

Sounds like a plan!

Does anyone remember Steve Atwater and Ronnie Lott?

We gotta learn from the past.

Just say no.

like i said in the OP...

i'd only consider it if we traded Bart and found ourselves in a situation with Josh Mauga getting too much time. while i like Mauga and others on our roster like him I don't feel good about it.

so if Farrior is hanging around, and we don't have a legit MLB to replace Bart (assuming Bart is even traded), then I see no reason to grab him for a year as a stopgap.

Peyton decides to return to school; we trade down and draft Farrior.

I don't want any reminders of that on this team.

Yeah - the fact that he's 37 solidifies it, but the above is my primary reason.

Was Aaron Smith cut too? I don't remember seeing that.
