Manning vs. Manning in the first Super Bowl in New York a few years from now?

Now THAT would be something!
I'll kill myself if the Giants make it that far again.

FWIW, Mariucci and Billick were on NFL Network this morning and said almost exactly what the OP said. If the Jets go after Manning they absolutely have to get him, because the Sanchez era would basically be over once they start the pursuit.
I disagree. If the Jets decide to stick with Sanchez as their qb this Manning bs will have no effect on it. What will have an effect is if we sign a Chad Henne or David Garrard to be the backup and they outplay Sanchez in TC and preseason. That's a more likely scenario.
Thats a possibility but remember Mark is Rexs pet. So in a realit only way the backup plays if Sanchez gets injured. ( I hope he doesnt)
A limo was just spotted pulling into his driveway. You all know what that means- he's getting dropped off from the airport ZOMG
There is no chance in hell that the Jets could put Manning under the cap. AND there is no way, even if they could, would Manning want to play for the Jets as they are currently constructed. I know it. You know it. Any one with a shred of common sense should know it.

So what I want to know is, WTF are the media and many Jet fans still continuing the charade. Personally I think its a laughably weak attempt by the Jets PR department to keep the Jets name in the news. Can anyone think of another reason?
I think it is broader than pursuing Manning. I think the Jets FO is just looking at a new QB period. I think they are thinking Manning, Campbell, Henne, and even RG3. I would be shocked if we did not make a flashy QB move this offseason.
+1111 honestly this thought came to me just b4 i sat down and read this thread...i think sanchez is done in ny!!!!
Manning is very competitive, You don't think he'd relish the chance to face off with TB 2xs a year?
Sanchez and the Jets have beaten Brady a few times including the playoffs, do you think that PM won't think he and the Jets can beat Brady consistently?
If he plays on any AFC team, he'll likely have to go through Brady to get to the SB anyways.
I'm not trying to be smart, but I highly doubt fear of Brady will influence his decision. The question is how does he rate the rest of the team and coaching staff? I think that perspective is more likely what will give him confidence that a certain team gives him the best chance at a SB.
There is no chance in hell that the Jets could put Manning under the cap. AND Craig, if Manning actually does want to face Brady twice a year, he just has to go to the Dolphins where they have more cap space, much better weather, better receivers, and the OC of one of the top passing games in league as HC.
Sanchez is not a leader??? conducting Jets west camps and getting a hold of the chad so he can know the new offense??? Please define "Leader"[/QUOTE]

ummmmm doing it on the field not just off..all that off the field stuff is nice..but at the end of the day(sorry a.rolle) you have to bring it to the field..his leadership skills suffered big time last year..and lets be honest about the playoff wins...they were nice but totally under control watered down passing game run first defense specials..won those games ...what game did he carry the jets on his back to victory..not 1 drive but games??? i think we tend to overblown those 4 playoff wins..great wins..not great performances from the qb
If Rex Ryan is listening to the players, the Jets will definitely try to get Manning. LT was just on NFL network followed by Manish Mehta. They both said adding Manning would be a great move for the Jets. LT went on to say that he thinks Sanchez would ask for his release. Sanchez actually THINKS (according to LT) that he is responsible for getting the Jets to the AFC Championship.

LT also added that if he opted to stay and back up Manning he would learn a lot and certainly become the starter again in another 3-5 years.
Yeah, THAT'S what LT was trying to convey for sure.
What is in the best interests of the Jets?

Peyton is not the long term answer for the Jets who already have Sanchez. What if he gets injured again? Then what...

Better to build around Sanchez and shore up weaknesses/gaps for medium to long term sustainability. Plus the salary cap is already a challenge, there isn't enough coin to go around (re-signing own Jets FA, signing other necessary FA's and draft picks) and something's got to give.

if manning plays another 2 years at a high level then yes you have to let him go to another team.

healthy or not.

have to look long term and manning is not the answer...if we were talking any position but QB I'd say take a shot and do it.

the risk/reward is far too high and it's not as if we have tavaris jackson or skelton at QB.
I am sorry dude, but I am tired of this long term bulls--t, it has been over 40 years, gut us a championship now, now damn it, then build a long term team. i said it in another post, if snachez and company gives us an 75-80% chance at a SB, which is realistic, and Manning gives us 90%, the decision is clear. Fuk long term, get it out of your head, we are hear and now. if we had an Aron Rogers or another up and comer, then ok, MS is not up and coming, very serviceable, but will never be a top 5 or 10 QB. We got to two AFC games due to Defense and trickery. Sorry bud, SB or bust.
